🐂 BRD remains one of the biggest health challenges faced by cattle feeders today — and early detection is critical. Researchers at the University of Saskatchewan conducted a multi-year study to see how pen riders identify sick cattle in real-world conditions, and how that process could be improved.
Using in-pen observation, clinical scoring, and diagnostic follow-ups, researchers compared field observations with clinical indicators. A video survey found wide variation in how cattle health signs are interpreted, regardless of experience level.
Findings point toward the need for a clearer, standardized clinical scoring tool to support training and improve consistency in BRD detection.
