Neon effects

Neon effects Handmade one at a time in St John's Newfoundland! My work ranges from general repairs, modifications, and custom builds.

For the last 8 years Neon Effects has been a passion project of mine combining my love of music and electronics into a one-man operation building custom analog stompboxes. I specialize in building analog tube amp-emulation overdrives and accurate clones of vintage fuzzes, but when it comes to custom requests Il take on just about any do-able project! Most pedals are made to order, but I often have

others for sale either through myself, or at O"Brien's music in downtown St John's! Send me a message of email if you've got any questions!

Well this is stupid.

To be honest I don't know how all these tariffs will affect what I do, but as long as I can still get the parts I need and it wont cost me my soul to do it, Il still be here building pedals.

Main thing is that local support is going to be more important than ever, and if you were thinking of buying an American pedal but having second thoughts now, I would be more than happy to build a copy of it, all made by hand locally. Custom work has always been my bread and butter, so if I can get a schematic for it, chances are I can build it.

I know I keep saying it, but the local support is what has kept me doing this for almost 10 years now, and I appreciate every bit of support I get. With any luck all this nonsense will be over soon

Pedals with engraved plates are going to start making their way to shelves across St. John's, starting with this modified big m**f! Its a ram's head circuit, modified with NOS japanese diodes and transistors, and a few circuit tweaks for good measure. Wanted to see how non-latin characters looked, so was a good excuse to do the graphics in japanese. Lights up a beautiful UV violet ontop of a violet/black swirl!

For sale right now at Haymarket Sound, go check it out if you're in the downtown St. John's area, great little shop.

This has been a long time in the making, but im real excited to anounce that going forward il be offering custom acrylic graphic plates for most pedals! Custom graphics have been heavilly requested since day 1, and until now i hadn't figured out a good way to do it, but through months of trial and error I'm finally ready to start putting these on pedals, starting with commissions and soon with all production pedals!

The graphics get designed by me in software, then engraved in reverse on each plate, and because its a physical engraving, the graphics light up real nice, especially in the dark. I can do custom text and even images and patterns, plenty of room to experiment with it.

Il be offering this for custom pedals made in 1590b, bb, and n1 enclosures as a $20 option. Give me a shout if you're interested, real excited to see new customs with these!

Soon!

Had a real trooper come in for servicing and repairs recently. Havent seen this Ibanez 60s fuzz clone since i built it 4 years ago, but since then its been gigged pretty hard and was in need of some servicing. Cleaned the pots and switch, checked the solder joints and wiring, and gave it a nice cleaning, and with a new set of k***s she's ready for another 4.

Special pink/orange custom Lithium Boost for a co worker. Been toying with the circuit a little, focused the midrange in a bit more in contour mode by killing more high and low end than usuall. Might be about time to start investigating a mk2 version!

If youre wondering why ive been a bit radio silent lately its because ive been putting the finishing touches on this. Been working on this modular synth on and off since 2020 and with the completion of the 3rd cabinet i think its safe to say it's finally reached a state of completion.

Holy crap its been a huge undertaking but the its nice to see this finally wrapped up and fully functional. I like to think if I can get this thing working i can build just about anything else.

Ofcourse the whole time ive also been working on pedals and doing repairs, stay tuned for nore of that now that this thing is out of the way!

This is the time of year that custom builds start ramping up again so I figured it's time for my annual custom pricing guide!

Most custom builds will fall in the $200-300 range. I usually price based off relative complexity and cost of part, so most overdrives, fuzzes, and the majority of pedals will fall into this range. For example, a request for a standard tube screamer would run about $240.

Some modulation pedals and delays would go for closer to $300 since they're a bit more complicated to build, but generally anything over that is going to be complex custom requests, or stuff that need expensive parts.

Utility pedals (footswitches, ab boxes, buffers, etc) and other smaller builds are usually under $200 depending on the hardware, especially when they're on the simple side.

This is the same price guide I've been using for nearly 10 years now, and I'm doing my best to keep prices as fair as possible. I know I keep saying it, but the most important thing is that I get to keep doing this thing I love.

I've built just about everything so I'm always down for a project, whether it's a good old clone, or something designed from the ground up. If you got an idea i want to hear it!
