The software industry is changing fast, but not just because of new tools.

In this episode of the MarsBased Podcast, Àlex Rodriguez Bacardit talks with Linus Ekenstam about what he calls the “100x era”: technology getting dramatically faster and cheaper every few months.

One idea comes up again and again, code is no longer a real competitive advantage. When anyone can build, what starts to matter is taste, judgment, and the kind of relationships you build over time.

Linus is also quite direct about platform dependency. If your growth depends on an algorithm, you’re not really in control.

We also get into how the role of engineers is shifting. Knowing how to build isn’t enough on its own. Business, distribution, and audience matter just as much. Sharing what you know is becoming part of the job.

There’s also space for the more chaotic side of things, like organizing a 1000-burger party and ending up with no profit.

Ilya Zayats tiene una visión que para muchos puede sonar radical: el código manual se está convirtiendo en el nuevo "assembler" y pronto será una reliquia técnica.

En este nuevo Road to CTO, nuestro CEO Àlex Rodríguez Bacardit se sienta con Ilya Zayats, el CTO de Factorial, para entender por qué están empujando a sus ingenieros a dejar de escribir código de manera manual. La estrategia en Factorial es clara: pasar de ser ejecutores de líneas a directores de agentes de IA, poniendo el foco real en el conocimiento de negocio, que es donde la tecnología aún no llega por sí sola.

Lo que más nos ha fascinado en MarsBased es ver cómo han transformado la percepción de la documentación. Ahora los desarrolladores la ven como una inversión directa para que sus agentes aprendan y no cometan el mismo error cada día. Todo esto se sostiene bajo una filosofía que Ilya mantiene a rajatabla y que nos resuena mucho: por muy alto que sea tu cargo, hay que seguir bajando al barro y tocando código para entender de verdad dónde están los límites reales de tu sistema.

We spent last week back at base for our Q1 2026 martian day. It’s always a good time to synchronize the squad and ensure our technical trajectory aligns with the high standards we set for our work.

Our focus remains on the maturity of our ai engineering. instead of just adopting new tools, we spent these days refining our neural integrations and evaluating high-level strategies to deliver the precision and depth our partners expect from us. For us, this is an evolution of the craft we’ve been perfecting for years.
