Sometimes you need to get on a plane to say goodbye.
Exactly a week ago, I got a phone call that nobody ever wants to get. It was my dad telling me that my granddad had passed away.
He was 95 and lived a long, happy and fulfilling life. My granddad was a huge figure of inspiration to me, his hard work, his ethic, his decency. He used to bring me and my brother to school every day when I was a child. After that call, the only thing I wanted was to be close to my family and have the chance to say goodbye. So I got on a plane a few hours later and the next day I was there for the funeral.
The only reason I’m sharing this here is because of all the weeks for this to happen, I had so much going on. Presentations, network events, mentoring and all the usual client work on top of it.
Everything went on hold, because life happened.
So this is a way to honour his memory, explain my sudden disappearance and to thank my friends and family who made this time a little more bearable. Thank you to my husband Killian for being such a fantastic partner. Also thank you to Julia and Raissa for keeping things going while I was away. My sincere apologies to anyone who felt let down this week.
Living so far away, I already miss so much of my life back home. Saying goodbye is never easy but I’m just glad I was able to be there this time.
