Contrast – the made-up specification! 👀

And let’s be honest, contrast is one of the greyest areas in LED specs (pun intended). It’s critical for great image quality, yet it’s rarely verified properly before making a purchasing decision.

At digiLED we’re not tied to a single factory. Instead, we choose each production partner based on the specific type of screen our client needs. That flexibility lets us run real shootouts and side-by-side comparisons with one clear goal: to verify actual contrast performance in real-world conditions.

The only way to truly evaluate it is through a proper product shootout - just like you would with projection systems. You’re well within your rights to insist on one!

At digiLED we’ll put as many samples in front of you as you need. Once you sign off, we oversee the full production process - R&D, QC, & Factory Acceptance Testing - so what you signoff on is exactly what you get in the box!

The result? Screens that deliver outstanding performance in bright daylight, just like our PARX Casino displays.

We've been delivering standout brand activations longer than most!

Back in 2017, digiLED ASIA completed this impressive project in Japan, helping set a new standard for immersive brand storytelling.

⚠️If you're looking at LED screens for similar applications, here are a few important things worth paying attention to:
➡️Contrast is critical – especially in direct sunlight. It's one of the biggest factors in real-world image quality, yet it's a spec that's often inflated. Always ask for a proper shootout before you commit.
➡️Thermal efficiency – cheaper screens tend to run hot, which shortens component life, pushes up air conditioning costs, and increases your overall running expenses.
➡️Dynamic brightness – no screen in this type of environment should run at a fixed level. Ambient light sensors that automatically adjust NIT output are essential for consistent performance and energy efficiency.
➡️Ease of servicing – if the screen is going up against glass, you need easy rear access. Front-service-only designs can become a real headache later.
➡️Strong local support – check average repair times and make sure you have genuinely accountable service on the ground, not just promises.

At digiLED we focus on getting all of this right from day one – because great activations deserve displays that perform reliably for years, not just look good on paper.

Engineering expertise is at the heart of every truly bespoke LED screen – especially when it’s a world record-breaking 10,500 square feet hanging in mid-air.

We partnered with the outstanding team at GoVision XP to help deliver Colossus TV – the world’s largest centre-hung LED screen. Each of its four sides is the size of a tennis court, measuring 19.2 metres wide by 9 metres high.

👀 That’s nearly the height of a three-storey house.

In total, the full system delivers almost 20 million pixels of stunning resolution. It hangs from a halo-shaped truss, with an additional circular LED ring below the main screens measuring over 6 metres high. Between the main displays and the ring, you’re looking at more than 10,500 square feet of bespoke LED screen.

When it comes to big screens in US sports – whether fixed installations or rental – nobody does it better than our friends at GoVision.

Why does projection & pixel density still matter when you're looking at LED screens for immersive attractions - & how can it help us make better choices...

For decades, projection ruled these spaces – massive surfaces, relatively low pixel density once stretched huge, yet the images always felt sharp & convincing from where people actually stood.

No one complained!

Now with LED we can go ridiculously fine on pixel pitch. But the big question is: are we just cramming in pixels for the sake of it?

In our latest blog we dig into why tighter isn’t automatically better in large immersive environments. From higher running costs and heat, to contrast challenges and the often-overlooked issue of content that can’t keep up with ultra-high native resolutions.

Sometimes a smarter (slightly wider) pitch that matches real-world content and viewing distances actually delivers a cleaner, more optimised image – while saving serious money on power, cooling and playback hardware.

If you're specifying LED for a theme park, dark ride, experiential gallery or brand activation, this is worth a read.

👉 Don’t pay for pixels you don’t need - read more here: https://www.digiled.com/led-screens-for-immersive-attractions-why-tighter-pixel-pitch-isnt-always-better/

We’re big believers in matching the technology to the space rather than defaulting to the finest pitch on the market. It’s how you get spectacular results without the hidden costs – especially when you factor in solutions like digiLED ZEUS® for zero standby power.

👉 Working on a complex AV project that needs bespoke LED screens?

With decades of hands-on experience, pioneering display technologies & exceptional customer support, we help system integrators, consultants, architects & creatives deliver the world’s most ambitious custom LED screen projects with confidence.

Bespoke LED screens are never mass production exercises. They typically demand custom metalwork, complex mounting systems, & a thorough knowledge of every individual components & extensive engineering experience. That level of detail matters at every stage – long before anything reaches site, right through manufacturing, & of course during installation itself.

➡️ We don’t claim to be manufacturers
Instead we opt for the APPLE approach - we partner with carefully selected manufacturing facilities, choosing the right one for each specific display application. Our core products are built to digiLED IP using the best components.

➡️ Experts in the complex
We are problem solvers. From immersive screens to large-scale engineered structures, we deliver custom LED screens built to fit the brief, the space and the ambition – no matter the application or complexity.

➡️ Strict in-person QC & FAT - your eyes & ears
digiLED engineers are on the factory floor during the production process. They’re hands-on, overseeing every stage, enforcing strict checks, and ensuring each screen meets our exceptionally high industry standards.

Did you know your LED screen’s brightness settings can severely affect image quality?

Grayscale is one of the most important - yet rarely discussed - specifications when it comes to LED displays.

➡️Real-world indoor brightness settings
Indoor LED screen installations are almost never run at maximum NIT output especially if there is low ambient light in a space – they are just far too bright. In fact, our internal research across hundreds of indoor installs shows most screens operate between 30 & 40% of their max brightness.

➡️Turning down brightness destroys image quality
By simply turning down the brightness on your LED processor, you’re effectively throwing away bit depth & brightness information, destroying image quality in the process - And yet, this remains the most common way screens are left operating in situ!

➡️Why this matters for & brand work
With LED screens increasingly used in immersive experiences, brand activations, & attractions where colour accuracy is critical to meet “as the artist intended” standards or impress brand ambassadors, exceptional grayscale performance should sit right at the top of your specification list.

➡️The hidden cost of poor grayscale performance
Poor grayscale affects far more than black & white images. It degrades overall colour performance, causing banding, artefacts, & loss of detail in gradients & high-contrast scenes.

➡️Factory calibration isn’t enough
Traditional factory calibration at full brightness often doesn’t deliver the results needed for demanding applications.

➡️The right way to do it
High-end processors such as Brompton & NovaStar COEX enable full grayscale calibration across a range of NIT outputs. This critical step should be performed after screen aging – a slow, highly skilled process where corners are sometimes cut to speed up Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT).

That’s why digiLED deploys our specialist tech team to oversee calibration when clients demand the highest image quality.

When image quality, accurate colour performance, & smooth ramping in transitional colours or high-contrast scenes are paramount, make sure your supplier has specified & calibrated the screen for real-world reduced NIT operation.

Thankfully digiLED pays attention to the finer details.
