Dont make them rich..! Fake websites are one of the most effective tools in a cybercriminal's arsenal. They can look identical to real banking, shopping, or government websites, right down to the logo, layout, and even a padlock in the address bar.
How to check a website is legitimate:
• Always check the full URL; look for subtle misspellings (e.g. micros0ft.com)
• Don't rely on the padlock alone; it just means the connection is encrypted, not that the site is safe
• Type the address directly rather than clicking a link in an email
• Use a bookmarked link for sites you visit regularly (banking, HMRC, etc.)
This week's action: Next time you're asked to log in somewhere, double-check the full URL in your browser before entering any details
