Monday mood board…

Currently wrapping up the visual identity for a new business. I always begin with a mood board to explore the look and feel, from typography and colour palette to the overall energy of the brand. It’s where the design direction starts to fall into place.

After some serious reflection, I’ve come to realise that I may have been a little unfair to Comic Sans. And by “a little unfair,” I mean completely wrong.

It turns out, after years of ignoring it, that Comic Sans actually has a lot going for it:

• Approachability – instantly friendly, whether you asked for it or not
• Readability – impossible to ignore, even when you really want to
• Personality – subtlety was never the goal
• Versatility – apparently works for everything, according to certain clients
• Confidence – shows up exactly the same, no matter the context

So, I’ve decided it’s time to embrace it properly, starting with my own logo.

Growth is important as a designer, and sometimes that means putting your biases aside and giving things a second chance. Even Comic Sans.

Curious to hear everyone’s thoughts on this new direction…

We've told a few of you about these and some of you may just have been lucky enough to sample. Delighted with the end result and to be able to add them to our range at markets this weekend, just in time for Christmas 🎄

Be warned though there's a limited amount and once they are gone they are gone.

We love the little collabs and friendships we have made so far with fellow, local producers at markets. Monto is a real talent and when he produced these a few weeks after we gave him some lard we wanted to be able to share them with you...they are soooo good!!

Thanks Monto for doing these for us, especially at the busiest time of the year.

Also a wee mention for getting the branding on point and William for doing a last minute print.

“Print is dead” is a phrase that I hear all the time, particularly with the rise of AI and digital communication. I have to disagree...

While technology has revolutionised communication, print continues to provide a tangible, lasting impact that screens simply can’t replicate. From business cards to brochures, books to posters, printed materials foster a sense of authenticity and trust. They engage with the user in a way that digital content can’t, making information more memorable and impactful.

Printed materials still play a vital role in today’s digital world, offering a focused, deeper, distraction-free experience. So, no, print is not dead; it has simply evolved, and in my opinion most definitely holding its ground.
