I recently had a Caesar salad with amazing beef-fat croutons, but the watery, flavourless tomatoes nearly ruined it! 🍅 It reminded me that even the best recipes need ripe, room-temperature tomatoes for maximum flavour.

For British Tomato Fortnight, here is my secret: keep them out of the fridge! Store them stem-side down on a plate or open container and away from direct sunlight, to keep them fresh and full of flavour. ✨

The idea for Cook’s Tidy started in my living room in 2011, born from the frustration of recipe clutter. 📚 It took 10 years before I could build it, and even a major kitchen leak in 2023 just paused things for a while! 🏠

I’ve spent over a decade working on this because I truly believe there’s a better way to organize the recipes we love. 🤍 If you’re ready for a kitchen clear-out this weekend, save this post to see how easy it is to get started! 📁

A quick tip that really works 🍓. Don’t wash strawberries until you’re ready to eat them. Store in a single layer on kitchen roll, lid slightly open - it delays mold development and keeps them fresher for longer. When you’re ready, eat strawberries at room temperature to max their flavour! Yum 😋

A kitchen tip to keep herbs fresher for longer: Soft herbs like parsley, coriander, dill and mint love the fridge - wrap them in some damp kitchen roll and pop them in a loose bag 🌿. Hardy herbs like rosemary and thyme prefer to be kept dry. (And basil?… always room temperature - the fridge turns it black 😉.

World Baking Day always makes me think of the recipes that came before us — handed down through generations, the ones tucked in old boxes, handwritten, splattered, and loved. I like knowing they can have a home in my kitchen — and in Cook’s Tidy 🥧

🍓 UK strawberries are back — sweet, juicy and properly moreish. To keep them fresher for longer, don’t wash them until you’re ready to eat. Keep them in the fridge and store them in a lidded container, in a single layer on kitchen roll, with the lid slightly open to stop moisture building up. 💧
