You wouldn’t drive without a seatbelt; so why run your business without basic cyber protection?

Most cyber-attacks aren’t “Hollywood hacks”.
They’re simple, avoidable issues like:
• Weak or reused passwords
• Staff clicking a convincing fake email
• Out of date software
• No reliable backups when something goes wrong

The impact is very real: downtime, lost data, angry customers, potential fines, and serious damage to your reputation.
The problem isn’t that businesses don’t care. It’s that cybersecurity often feels:
• Too technical
• Too confusing
• Too easy to get wrong

That’s exactly where TecSec comes in.
We’re:
• No jargon people – we explain everything in clear, simple language
• Trusted and certified – independently recognised for doing things properly
• Practical and realistic – focused on the basics that protect your business day to day

Think of us as your business seatbelt. You hope you’ll never “need” it, but you’ll be very glad it’s there if something happens.
If you’re not sure how secure your business really is, that’s your sign to act.

Contact TecSec for a FREE Cyber Health Check.
We’ll give you a quick, friendly, no jargon view of:
• Where you’re protected
• Where you’re exposed
• What simple steps will make the biggest difference
No scare tactics. No pressure. Just clarity.

This quote perfectly captures how we approach cyber security at TecSec.
Too many organisations still look for one tool, one platform, or a one-time certification that will “fix” everything.

But real security isn’t a checkbox.
It’s not a piece of software you buy.
It’s not something you set and forget.

Real protection comes from ongoing habits, continuous monitoring, and practical day-to-day cyber and IT hygiene.

That’s why at TecSec, we don’t just perform assessments and disappear.

We support organisations long-term — building resilient security practices with a team that includes:
In-house Cyber Essentials Assessors
Cyber Advisors backed by NCSC frameworks
Experienced IT engineers whoare trained cyber essential assessors
Governance and compliance specialists

All under one roof.
All aligned.
All focused on keeping your business secure every single day — not just on audit day.

Because security isn’t a moment. It’s a mindset.

Did you know TecSec also provide full IT Support?

Most people know TecSec for our Cyber Essentials certifications and government standard cyber security work, what many don’t realise is that we also deliver complete Managed IT Support for businesses across the UK.

For many businesses, IT and cyber are handled by two separate companies which often means gaps, delays, and confusion about who’s responsible for what. That’s usually when things go wrong.
With TecSec, our clients get a trusted technology partner covering both sides:

IT Support
• Fast, friendly helpdesk
• Cloud management
• Backups & disaster recovery
• Networking & internet
• Business telephony - VoIP
• Day to day support that keeps people productive

Cyber Security & Compliance
• Sheffield’s only NCSC recognised Cyber Advisor
• IASME Certification Body for Cyber Essentials, CE+,DCC & ICA
• Security improvements, monitoring, and expert guidance

This combination means our clients stay:
• Secure
• Compliant
• Efficient
• And running day to day

So instead of juggling two or three suppliers and the gaps that come with that, our clients get a single team who understand their whole environment and keep it secure, compliant, and running day to day. Because secure IT isn’t just about certifications. It’s about having the right support behind the scenes.

Is Your Business "Defence Ready"?

In the world of UK Defence, security isn’t just about physical borders – it’s about the digital integrity of every link in the supply chain. At TecSec Services, we have always been committed to staying at the forefront of cyber governance.

We are excited to announce that TecSec Services has officially been accredited as a Certification Body for the Defence Cyber Certification (DCC) scheme. 🚀

The UK Ministry of Defence (MOD), in collaboration with IASME, is evolving its approach to securing the supply chain by implementing independent, evidence-based verification through the Defence Cyber Certification Scheme. As an accredited body, we are one of a select group of IT companies authorised to assess and certify organisations against these new standards.

What does this mean for our clients?
✅ Contract Readiness: Stay ahead of the curve as DCC becomes a mandatory requirement for MOD tenders.
✅ Streamlined Assurance: One organisation-wide certification that covers multiple contracts. Once obtained, it can be used for various UK Defence procurements, saving you time and reducing administrative burdens
✅ Expert Guidance: From gap analysis to final audit, we’re here to assist you in the certification process.

Cyber security is the new front line. Whether you’re an established defence contractor or looking to enter the market, we’re committed to making sure your digital defences are "Defence Ready."

Many cyber attacks do not start with advanced hacking methods. Instead, they often result from everyday choices made within a business.

Attackers rely on the expectation that you might overlook, delay, or consider certain security concerns as "acceptable for now."

Adopting a different viewpoint on these issues could change how you handle your security practices.

We can assist you in staying one step ahead of cyber criminals. Contact us to learn more. https://www.tecsec.co.uk/cyber-security/

Are your business's cloud storage bills rising? When was the last time you thoroughly cleaned up your data storage?

The increasing demand for artificial intelligence is putting pressure on global hardware supply, causing storage costs to spike for many businesses. However, you could significantly cut these expenses without even changing your provider!

A recent report revealed that up to 50% of the data businesses store is rarely accessed.

This data is just sitting there, collecting digital dust. The industry categorises this as ROT data—Redundant, Obsolete, and Trivial information!

This includes old files, duplicate documents, outdated backups, "just in case" folders, and random clutter that hasn't been touched in years.

That unused data is costing your business real money. It’s calculated that removing 100TB of cloud data could save the average AWS customer around £20,800 per year. That’s a salary. A new hire!

But the benefits aren’t just financial.
➡️Too much outdated data is a burden that slows down productivity. According to Microsoft’s Work Trend Index, 60% of workers waste valuable time searching for information. By decluttering your data, you facilitate easier searches and enhance overall efficiency.
➡️ Reducing your data volume also contributes to lower energy consumption. Data centres are projected to more than double their electricity usage by 2030. By cleaning up your digital storage, you’re not only improving performance but also reducing your carbon footprint.

Remember, some data needs to be retained due to regulations. You can't delete everything, so it’s crucial to know what you can keep and what can be discarded.

By eliminating redundant, outdated, and trivial (ROT) data, you’ll save money, minimise risk, increase productivity, and support sustainability.

If you're unsure what to save, what to keep, and where to store everything, expert guidance is invaluable. We’re here to help – get in touch! https://www.tecsec.co.uk/

How much time is your team losing on tasks that could be automated in the background?

Many businesses don’t realise how many hours are lost each week to simple, repetitive administrative tasks.

These types of tasks drain energy without contributing to the advancement of the business.

Here's how to identify the biggest opportunities to save time and streamline your workflow.

How confident are you that the passwords in your company are genuinely strong? 🛑

Each year brings new devices, new apps, and new threats, yet somehow, our passwords remain unchanged. 😬🔐

In the latest report on the top 200 most common passwords, the findings are frankly alarming.

The usual offenders still dominate the list:
👉 “admin”
👉 “password”
👉 “12345”, “123456”, “12345678”

These weak passwords continue to be used worldwide.

Cybercriminals don’t need to be especially clever; automated tools can quickly cycle through these easily guessable passwords in seconds.

A common myth this research dispels is that weak passwords are primarily used by those who are “less tech-savvy.” The study found that all generations - young, old, and everything in between - exhibit poor password hygiene equally.

The difference lies only in their preferences:
➡️Some groups favour simple numeric sequences.
➡️Older generations often opt for names.
➡️Younger generations tend to use trends or pop culture references, which attackers can also easily guess.

There is a slight glimmer of hope: More people are beginning to incorporate special characters like @, !, or # into their passwords.

While this is a small step in the right direction, it is still not enough. Weak passwords like “P@ssw0rd” or “Admin@123” can be compromised effortlessly.

The truth is simple: Strong passwords must be long, random, and impossible to remember.

Because no one can realistically create such passwords for dozens of accounts, password managers are a useful solution. A password manager securely stores all your passwords, generates strong ones for you, and leaves you with just one (properly secure) password to remember.

Using a password manager is one of the easiest and most cost-effective ways to enhance security across any business.
