The most common mistake is not bad design.
It's not even an outdated look, poor signposting, a confusing user journey or slow-loading imagery.
It's not telling the visitor, instantly, how your business can help them.
Instead, it talks about 'the' business. Your years of experience. Gives a full list of your services. Lists all the technical stuff. All the things you're proud of, which are great and all very important for the visitor to know, but just NOT at the moment they land on your website.
A visitor doesn’t land on your homepage wondering how long you’ve been trading or how many awards you've received. They arrive with a problem, and you have about three seconds to help them decide if you’re the one who can solve it.
If your homepage doesn’t tell them you can, then most people won’t stick around to read the rest.
The fix isn’t usually a full redesign. It’s usually just the words and priorities. It can often mean updating your hero section.
