Caboolture Bus Lines (CBL) went live with Optibus Operations and the Driver App in just 6 weeks, and they haven't looked back.

Since implementing Optibus's end-to-end, cloud-native platform, CBL's team now has a single, accurate view of everything happening across their network. Double-allocated buses and overlapping rosters are gone. 90 drivers get real-time shift information and updates directly to their mobile devices. And since go-live, CBL has not experienced a single technical fault.

In the words of Robert Douglass, Workplace Manager at CBL:

"The accuracy is the big differenceโ€ฆ The operations team have a clear picture of exactly what's happening. A true picture - not one that is hopefully right or mostly right."

Optibus Launches DRT Planning with Native GTFS Flex Support, Modernizing How Agencies Design and Publish Demand Response Service

Low-density areas, first-mile/last-mile gaps, and accessibility are some of the hardest problems in transit planning. Fixed routes can't serve everyone, and the communities that need public transport the most are often the ones left behind.

Demand Responsive Transport (DRT) is increasingly the answer. And with GTFS Flex now supported natively in Optibus, agencies can model, import, and export flexible services to the same standard they apply to fixed routes, making those services discoverable in the trip planning apps passengers already use every day.

On May 26th, Hod Brom and Weston Shippy will be demoing the solution, built to help agencies design integrated fixed and flexible networks within the same timeplan, all in one place.

What a moment. Yesterday, our CEO and co-founder Amos Haggiag took to the stage at the Smart Mobility Summit in Tel Aviv, in front of hundreds of people, to discuss how AI and data are transforming public transportation.

On a panel with Nir Bezalel, CEO of Moovit, and Mark Oun, CEO of Gett the conversation hit on several challenges and opportunities:

๐Ÿ”น Resolving the Driver Shortage: Our survey of 400 drivers showed how AI scheduling can deliver what workers are asking for: less fatigue, fewer overtime shifts, and optimized rosters.

๐Ÿ”น Elevating the Passenger Journey: Harnessing data to enable personalized public transit that increases service reliability and makes transit the mobility mode of choice.

๐Ÿ”น Accelerating Large-Scale Electrification: Leveraging optimization algorithms to navigate the complex constraints of transitioning to zero-emission bus fleets at scale.

AI is no longer a future concept for public transit. It is on the ground right now, optimizing networks and improving daily commutes for millions of passengers, and it was incredible to be part of a dialogue that brought together mobility leaders from across autonomous vehicles, critical infrastructure, and global innovation ecosystems to talk about exactly that.

Thank you to Alon Preminger of TASC Consulting & Capital and to the Israel Ministry of Transport | ืžืฉืจื“ ื”ืชื—ื‘ื•ืจื” for the invitation.

When service is disrupted, the last thing a controller needs is to update three different systems just to get a message out to passengers. But for many agencies, that's exactly the reality, and under pressure, alerts get delayed, stay incomplete, or are missed entirely.

The new Service Alerts experience in Optibus Control is designed to close that gap. Operational changes now automatically generate passenger-facing alerts across transit apps, websites, and on-street screens via GTFS-RT, with smarter targeting, ready-made templates, and far less manual work for controllers.

The result is a more dependable experience for riders and less firefighting for the teams keeping the network running, even on the difficult days.

Sidra Collins breaks it all down on the blog: https://blog.optibus.com/proactive-communication-for-the-worlds-biggest-transit-systems

Go Bus, one of the UK's leading independent bus operators, wanted to give their drivers more flexibility, visibility, and control over their working lives. To improve driver-controller communication around last-minute changes and boost retention in the face of driver shortages, it was imperative for GoBus to deliver a different kind of experience.

With Optibus Operations and the Driver App, GoBus found the right tools to make it happen, building a digital-first system that gives drivers real-time access to their shifts, payroll breakdowns, and schedule changes, all on their phones.

The results speak for themselves:
๐Ÿ”น 100% driver app adoption across the entire workforce
๐Ÿ”น Drivers can now see their rotas 2โ€“3 weeks in advance, a key retention factor
๐Ÿ”น Fewer disruptions, fewer pay queries, and a calmer depot

Alastair Willis, Managing Director at GoBus, said: "Using this technology means we can have a far better open communication with drivers and keep them informed and updated... it's making it easier to work together."

Spain and Portugal have identical on-time performance scores, both at 91.6% according to the Mosaiq Global Public Transit Index from our partner Snapper Services Limited. But behind that number, they are dealing with completely opposite problems.

Portugal's buses are running late. 7% of trips arrive behind schedule, more than double Spain's late-running rate, driven by surging ridership and growing congestion. Spain's buses are leaving too early. 5.3% of trips depart ahead of schedule, and a bus that leaves two minutes early is effectively a bus that never showed up for the passenger standing at the stop.

In our latest blog, we invited Charlotte Steel, Product Marketing Manager at Snapper, to break down what the data is really saying, and what it means for how agencies should be planning.

Optibus is now working with Supertram to optimize 9 million passenger journeys each year in the UK.

With Optibus Planning, Scheduling, Rostering, Operations, and Driver App, Supertram is streamlining how it manages its light rail network; from building more balanced staff rosters aligned with timetable demands to moving towards a fully paperless working environment that gives drivers and operational staff clearer, faster access to the information they need.

In the UK, Optibus already supports the management of more than 70% of the country's buses. This partnership extends that same AI-powered, cloud-native technology to light rail, helping Supertram deliver on its vision of an integrated, smarter transport network across South Yorkshire.

Trevor Stocker, Head of Service Delivery at Supertram, said: "This new initiative is a testament to our ongoing investment in innovation and our dedication to providing the best possible service for our customers and employees. This positions Supertram at the forefront of operational excellence and also supports our shared vision of an integrated transport network across the region."

The way transit agencies buy technology is changing. RFPs that once evaluated products in isolation are now demanding integrated solutions โ€” ticketing, AVL, passenger information โ€” working together from day one.

For ticketing providers and system integrators, that shift changes how you need to show up. A great product isn't enough if it can't demonstrate how it fits into a wider ecosystem.

That's exactly what Doug White and Mikel Aguirre Claramunt are unpacking next week on Wednesday, April 29th at 12pm GMT.

If integrated RFPs are part of your world right now, this one's worth your time.
