Mauritius has a clear ambition to become a leading Technology Hub for the region, and State Informatics Ltd (SIL) is committed to contributing to this national vision through its Centre of Excellence, built around three key pillars: Research & Innovation, Cybersecurity, and Data Technology.

As part of this journey, SIL Chairman Mr. Joyadeep Beeharry and Managing Director Dr. Parmesh Pallanee participated in India Startup Week 2026, held in Bangalore on 21–22 August 2026. The event provided an opportunity to engage with innovative startups and technology leaders developing advanced solutions in Artificial Intelligence and Cybersecurity.

These interactions have paved the way for valuable partnerships, knowledge exchange, and collaboration opportunities that can bring cutting-edge expertise to Mauritius and the African region. Such technologies have the potential to modernise legacy systems and accelerate digital transformation across government institutions.

SIL also envisions strengthening links between the Indian and Mauritian startup ecosystems, creating opportunities for expertise sharing, investment, and innovation. In this spirit, SIL has the ambition to collaborate with strategic partners to host a future “Mauritius Startup Week”, bringing together startups, investors, and innovators from Mauritius, India, Africa, and beyond.

By fostering innovation, collaboration, and technology transfer, SIL continues to play its part in supporting Mauritius’ ambition of becoming a regional Technology Hub.

𝗗𝗿. 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝗺𝗲𝘀𝗵 𝗣𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗲𝗲 𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗠𝗜𝗣𝗔 𝗙𝗼𝗿𝘂𝗺 𝗼𝗳 𝗔𝗰𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁𝘀

Dr. Parmesh Pallanee, Managing Director of State Informatics Ltd (SIL), participated as a panelist at the Forum of Accountants, organised by the Mauritius Institute of Professional Accountants (MIPA) at Hilton Mauritius Resort.

The panel discussion, themed “The Ethics of AI in Finance”, explored the evolution of AI, its ethical implications and its future role within the finance profession.

One of the key perspectives shared by Dr. Pallanee was that AI should rather be considered as “Algorithmic Intelligence”. Algorithmic intelligence has existed for years through ERP and computerised accounting applications such as QuickBooks, Sage, SAP Financials and Oracle Financials. What has fundamentally changed is the exponential growth in computing power, the ability to slice and dice vast amounts of data at unprecedented speed with data centres spread across the globe.

Algorithmic intelligence will always remain the basis of Artificial Intelligence. As AI continues to evolve, developers and engineers, together with data and systems architects and domain experts such as accountants and finance professionals, will therefore continue to play an essential role in designing and building AI-enabled solutions.

Dr. Pallanee also stressed the importance of developing new skills, particularly the ability to effectively prompt and work alongside AI tools, as organisations increasingly explore Agentic AI for their operations. The discussion further highlighted that AI should be viewed as an enabler of efficiency and capability, with human judgement and accountability remaining essential.

SIL thanks MIPA for the opportunity to contribute to this important discussion and reiterates its commitment to being at the forefront of national debates on emerging technologies and supporting their responsible and effective adoption.

🎉 Celebrating 37 Years of Excellence!

This week, State Informatics Ltd (SIL) proudly celebrated its 37th Anniversary, marking nearly four decades of innovation, collaboration, and digital transformation.
The occasion was honoured by the presence of our esteemed Board Members, Management, and the entire SIL Family, making this milestone even more meaningful as we reflected on our journey and celebrated the people who continue to drive our success.

In his address, our Managing Director, Dr. Parmesh Pallanee, reaffirmed the strategic roadmap he presented to the Board 15 months ago. Built around five key pillars—Organizational Restructuring, Technology Modernization, Process Re-engineering, Talent Development, and Regional Development—this vision continues to transform SIL into a stronger, more agile, and future-ready organisation, with tangible results already being achieved.
The celebration also provided an opportunity to recognize the winners of the SIL World Cup 2026 Prediction Challenge, adding a festive touch to this special occasion.

As we celebrate 37 years of excellence, we remain firmly focused on the future, committed to driving innovation, empowering our people, and delivering impactful digital solutions that contribute to the digital transformation of Mauritius and beyond.

Logging Off with a Grateful Heart – Has Never Been Just a Workplace, but a Family 💙

Last week, we bid farewell to Asha, a colleague whose remarkable journey has been closely intertwined with the history and growth of SIL.

Joining SIL in 1989, when the company was based at the SICOM Building, Asha dedicated more than 36 years to the organisation. Throughout her career, she served in the Corporate Management Office, Registry Department, Administration Department as Lead Administrative Specialist, and most recently in the Managing Director's Office. Along the way, she witnessed SIL's transformation, worked with successive Management Teams, and even shared an office with the current Minister of MITCI during his time at SIL. As Asha likes to joke, she has worked with "future VIPs and leaders" long before they became one!

Reflecting on her journey, Asha shared:
"There were challenges as well as smooth sailing periods. One of my greatest challenges was leading the Administration Department while supporting the Office of the Managing Director at the same time. It has been a privilege to work alongside my wonderful Administration Team, and I truly appreciated the close collaboration with the HR Department.

"My heartfelt thanks goes to everyone who crossed my path and contributed to making my years at SIL so memorable. My sincere thanks also goes to Dr. Parmesh Pallanee for the trust and confidence he placed in me to support and manage his office."

As Asha embarks on a new chapter, we thank her for her years of dedication, professionalism and unwavering commitment.

At the Girls in ICT session held at MGSS, Varsha Deelah, Senior Technology Consultant – Cybersecurity at SIL, shared an empowering message with young girls: the future of technology is theirs to shape.

Through her presentation, she highlighted how ICT is transforming industries such as healthcare, education, and public services, while also exploring emerging trends including Artificial Intelligence, cloud computing, and the rapidly evolving digital landscape.

She shed light on the diverse career paths available in ICT, emphasizing the importance of continuous learning, adaptability, and the development of both technical and soft skills to succeed in this dynamic field.

At the heart of her message was inclusion and empowerment, reminding students that: "There is no single path in ICT, but there is space for everyone."

Encouraging the next generation to dream big and embrace innovation, she concluded with a powerful reminder: "Every girl has the potential to build an inspiring career in ICT. Start small, keep learning, and believe in yourself. Your ideas matter, your creativity matters, and with determination, your future in technology can be greater than you ever imagined."
