What does the future of underwater autonomy look like when vehicles can “see” in real time, even when cameras cannot?

At the International Marine Robotics and Autonomy Workshop, hosted by SINTEF Ocean, Water Linked showcased how compact real-time 3D sonar can support the next generation of marine robotic systems.

During the workshop, our Sonar 3D-15 was demonstrated as part of a live setup with a Blueye X3, mapping ladders, pipes, and moving underwater vehicles in SINTEF’s water laboratory.

The key message from the day was:
Autonomy depends on reliable perception.

As ROVs, AUVs, and marine robotic platforms take on more complex missions, they need to understand their surroundings in real time, especially in darkness, turbidity, and poor visibility.

We are excited to contribute to this development by making advanced underwater perception more compact, practical, and accessible.

More from the workshop here:

Tthe need for reliable underwater perception is growing rapidly. For Water Linked, the event was an opportunity to demonstrate how compact, real-time 3D sonar can support this development.

Just in one week Water Linked is heading to in Vienna!

We are excited to exhibit at the 2026 IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation, taking place 1–5 June 2026 at VIECON / Messe Wien in Vienna, Austria.

ICRA brings together the global robotics and automation community: researchers, engineers, industry leaders, innovators, and technology companies shaping the future of robotics.

For Water Linked, this is a great opportunity to connect with the robotics community and showcase how our underwater sensor technology supports the next generation of subsea autonomy, navigation, positioning, spatial awareness, and communication.

From compact DVLs and underwater GPS to acoustic modems and real-time 3D sonar, Water Linked is helping underwater vehicles and operators explore, navigate, and communicate with greater confidence below the surface.

Autonomy was one of the strongest themes at Combined Naval Event 2026.

Water Linked was pleased to exhibit at CNE 2026 in Farnborough, connecting with system integrators, defense contractors, technology partners, and maritime innovators from across the naval ecosystem.

At our stand, the conversations focused on a clear market need: compact, reliable, and integration-friendly technologies that support the next generation of AUVs, USVs, and autonomous underwater operations.

Our low-profile DVLs attracted strong interest for new autonomous vehicle platforms, while Sonar 3D-15 sparked valuable discussions around real-time 3D perception and environmental mapping in challenging underwater conditions.

A big thank you to everyone who visited us and shared insights, ideas, and future collaboration opportunities. And special thanks to Deep Trekker Inc. for partnering at the exhibition.

New feature announcement: Water Tracking for Water Linked DVLs.

Following customer requests, Water Linked has introduced Water Tracking - a new mode of operation for our DVLs, available as a free firmware update for the A50 and A125.

Water Tracking provides velocity information when bottom lock is not available, helping ROVs and AUVs maintain improved navigation performance in deep-water operations.

The feature works by measuring acoustic reflections from the water column and calculating velocity relative to the water, supporting INS performance and enabling more accurate vehicle navigation beyond bottom-tracking range.

Water Tracking is also available with the newly launched DVL A100 and A250.

More details coming soon.

We’re heading to the Combined Naval Event 2026 in Farnborough!

From 19 - 21 May, CNE 2026 will bring together 2,200+ senior naval leaders, government officials, industry representatives and international partners from 85+ nations, including and allied forces, for three days of collaboration, insight and innovation across the naval and maritime community.

With the agenda covering key topics such as fleet readiness, maritime domain awareness, , shipbuilding and multi-domain challenges, this is an important meeting point for anyone shaping the future of naval operations.

At Water Linked, we are proud to support this future with underwater sensor technology that helps divers, ROVs and AUVs navigate, position and communicate more confidently in challenging subsea environments.

From underwater GPS and positioning to navigation sensors and solutions, our technologies are designed to improve awareness and operational confidence where it matters most: below the surface.

Meet us at stand G57 to discuss how Water Linked can support your subsea and maritime defence operations.

When underwater infrastructure becomes critical to national security, innovation below the surface matters more than ever.

During the Nordic Defence Ministers’ visit to Trondheim, Water Linked had the opportunity to showcase how our underwater sensor technology can support both civilian and defence applications, from subsea navigation and positioning to improved situational awareness in complex underwater environments.

As the Nordics strengthen cooperation around security, resilience, and critical infrastructure, dual-use technology will play an important role in enabling safer, smarter, and more autonomous underwater operations.

Proud to contribute Norwegian technology to a safer and more connected underwater future.

Smarter underwater autonomy starts with better vision. 🔎
Deep-tech company BeeX is strengthening its autonomous underwater drones with Water Linked’s Sonar 3D-15, bringing real-time 3D perception to even the most challenging, zero-visibility environments. 🌊

The result? More reliable inspections, better data, and less need for manual intervention.📈

When things go wrong underwater, there’s no room for guesswork.
Hundreds of meters below the surface, where visibility is limited and conditions are unpredictable, solving problems takes a unique mindset.
For our engineer Esten Solem Dalseg, this isn’t the exception but rather the job.
This is a story about curiosity, resilience, and the people behind the technology who make underwater operations safer, smarter, and more reliable.

We’re excited to share that Water Linked now has an official ROS2 driver for our DVLs 🎉

For a while, the community has been using unofficial drivers. Now, we’ve taken the next step, bringing a tested, reliable, and officially supported ROS2 integration into our own GitHub.

This driver enables:
✔️ Full access to DVL data
✔️ Configuration of devices directly through ROS2
✔️ Easier integration with AUVs and ROVs

What makes this release especially meaningful is how it came together.

The driver was originally developed by Evan Palmer at Oregon State University for use in their robotics projects. When their setup changed, we had the opportunity to take over the software. Instead of starting from scratch, we chose to build on something that already worked well.

Because that’s how we see innovation at Water Linked:
👉 If it works, we improve it
👉 If there’s value, we collaborate
👉 If the community benefits, we make it accessible.

We’re proud to support an open and practical approach to development and this is just the beginning.

We are also working on the Python library for interfacing with the Sonar 3D-15:

Stay tuned for more updates to come!
