Helping train Royal New Zealand Navy divers in virtual reality is not your average day at work. Unless you’re Lance Bauerfeind.

Company-X’s Lance Bauerfeind received the Auahatanga - Innovation Award at the Minister of Defence Awards of Excellence to Industry, presented by New Zealand Minister of Defence Chris Penk MP.

This award recognises Lance and the team’s work helping transform how Royal New Zealand Navy divers train using virtual reality.

The immersive multiplayer training system allows Navy divers and instructors to enter a companion diver scenario where instructors can observe performance, correct habits as they occur, and help trainees build preparedness in a safer, controlled environment.

A brilliant example of our team's capabilities in extended reality (XR) and a nod to the ongoing partnership between Company-X and the New Zealand Defence Force.

Great to host the New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF) at Company-X’s head office in Hamilton, New Zealand for the Defence Industry Engagement Workshops.

The day brought together organisations from Hamilton, the Waikato, Auckland, Brisbane and elsewhere to share their capabilities and ideas across the Maritime, Aerospace, Land, Information, and Tech Accelerator domains.

Most importantly, it was one of the many ongoing efforts from NZDF to create a direct line between industry experts like Company-X and the Defence Force. With NZDF and Ministry of Defence domain leaders in the room, it gave us all a chance to discuss how we can support the efforts contained in the Defence Capability Plan, identify where our respective priorities are heading, and showcase where we can contribute in a meaningful way.

Meet the Dodgy Data Family! In the words of the Waikato Chamber of Commerce Awards’ MC, Jesse Mulligan, "And the award for best sponsor video goes to Company-X."

We’ve all had that one family or family member you didn’t want at your holiday party but still had to invite. For Company-X, that family is the Dodgy Data Family. The disorganized - and sometimes dysfunctional - members that are in need of a [Company-X] intervention.

The campaign is the brainchild of a symbiotic partnership between an AI (Midjourney), a marketing creative (Vicki Jones), art direction that would make Hollywood jealous (One Man Crew Murdoch Daly), and New Zealand’s vocal version of Morgan Freeman (Chris Gardner).
