Unexpected obstacle? No problem.

Our cleaning robot was minding its own business when it came across something the builders had left behind, a large object, but from a robot’s point of view, just a few very thin poles in space.

The robot spotted it, switched on its warning lights, tried to safely reposition itself, then worked out a way around and carried on.

A table, a box or a person would be much easier to detect, which makes this a pretty cool example of the robot navigating the unexpected things that happen in real-world environments.

Two hours. One cleaner. One robot. One seriously satisfying result.

Today’s job was a large event space with tiered seating, stairs, a stage, and a huge floor area.

Here’s how we tackled it as a team:
✨ I dust-mopped the floor while the robot got to work scrubbing.
✨ I vacuumed the stairs and between every row of seating.
✨ I went back to mop the areas the robot couldn’t reach.

Then it was time to look after my hardest-working teammate. I cleaned the robot, removed the dust and debris from the pads and bearings, cleaned the filters, emptied the recovery tank… and the water was almost black. 🤢

If I’d been mopping that entire floor by hand, I’d have been exhausted. I’d also have been stopping multiple times to change dirty mop water just to avoid spreading grime back across the floor.

Instead, the robot did the heavy floor scrubbing while I focused on the detail work that really needs a person.

That’s what robotics should do, not replace cleaners, but work alongside them.

My back, my shoulders, and my smile are all very grateful today. 😄
