A 750-watt power supply does not make a computer use 750 watts all the time. The number is the PSU's output capacity. Actual draw changes with the parts and workload.

Size the unit from the exact CPU, graphics card, drives, fans, expansion cards, and powered USB devices, then include a sensible safety buffer. Wattage is only one check. Confirm that the unit fits the case and has the cables required by the exact graphics card. Partner cards in the same GPU family can use different plugs or power limits.

An efficiency rating describes performance at tested load levels. It does not replace checks for capacity, cable support, physical fit, condition, or quality.

Minimum and recommended game requirements are two different targets.

Minimum means the selected hardware clears the publisher's basic requirement. It does not guarantee a particular frame rate or graphics setting. Recommended is the publisher's higher target, when one is provided.

Compare the exact CPU and GPU models, RAM amount, and storage requirement. Do not substitute a similar-looking part just to get an answer. One weak component can still limit the whole result. Also check the operating system, drivers, free space, graphics features, and current game updates separately, because a simple hardware comparison cannot cover them all.

Storage labels can be misleading if you only compare the biggest speed number.

• Hard drives use spinning platters and suit bulk storage.
• SATA SSDs remove mechanical delays and are a major jump for Windows, apps, and general response.
• NVMe SSDs use PCIe and can move large files far faster.

The leap from a hard drive to any SSD is usually obvious. Moving from a SATA SSD to a fast NVMe drive may feel smaller during web browsing or office work because those tasks do not constantly use peak sequential speed. NVMe matters more for large transfers, video work, and workloads built to use it. Check the motherboard's M.2 support and lane sharing before buying.

A faster internet plan does not automatically fix lag. Bandwidth and latency measure different things:

• Mbps is how much data the connection can move each second.
• Ping is how long a small packet takes to make the trip and return.

Streaming and downloads need enough bandwidth. Games and video calls also need low, consistent latency and little packet loss. Before buying a faster plan, test once over Ethernet and once over Wi-Fi. If Ethernet is stable but Wi-Fi is not, start with router placement, interference, and signal strength. If both are poor at the same time each evening, the wider connection or provider may be the limit.

Refresh rate and frame rate are different numbers that work together.

• Monitor refresh rate, measured in Hz, is how many times the display can redraw each second.
• Frame rate, measured in FPS, is how many frames the GPU produces each second.

A 144 Hz monitor has a 6.94 ms refresh cycle, but it cannot display 144 new frames each second if the GPU is only producing 80 FPS. If frame delivery and refresh timing do not line up, you may see tearing or repeated frames. Adaptive sync lets a compatible monitor follow the GPU across a supported range. For the smoothest result, aim for steady frame times, not just a high average FPS.

A gaming PC does not use one fixed amount of power. Draw changes with the game, frame-rate target, GPU load, CPU load, and display settings.

For the real wall figure, plug a power meter between the outlet and the PC. Record three readings: desktop idle, a typical game, and a demanding scene after the system has warmed up. Hardware-monitoring software can show CPU and GPU power, but it does not include the entire computer or power-supply losses.

If the GPU is working hard to render frames your monitor cannot use, a sensible frame-rate cap can lower power, heat, and fan noise.

Inside a CPU, work moves through a short cycle:

• The control unit fetches and decodes an instruction.
• Registers hold the values needed right now.
• The arithmetic logic unit handles math and comparisons.
• Cache keeps recently used data close so the core waits less for system RAM.

Clock speed tells you how often the processor's stages can advance, but not how much work each stage finishes. That is why two CPUs at the same GHz can perform differently. Cores, cache design, and work completed per clock all matter.

• CPU socket: which processor family can fit
• DIMM slot: where desktop RAM installs
• PCIe x16 slot: the usual home for a graphics card
• M.2 socket: where a small SSD can connect directly to the board

Similar-looking parts are not always compatible. DDR4 and DDR5 RAM use different notches. A full-length PCIe slot may not be wired for all 16 lanes, and an M.2 socket may share bandwidth with a SATA port. Check the manual for the exact board before buying or moving a part. Line up keyed notches and never force a connector.

Monitor panel labels describe tradeoffs, not a simple best-to-worst ranking.

IPS panels are known for wide viewing angles and dependable color. VA panels usually provide stronger contrast and deeper blacks, although dark motion can smear on some models. TN panels can offer fast response at a lower price, but color and viewing angles are usually weaker.

Choose for the work you actually do, then compare reviews of the exact model. Two monitors using the same panel family can still differ in motion handling, brightness, color accuracy, and build quality.

Dirty RAM contacts can cause poor electrical contact, but cleaning them requires a light touch. Shut down and unplug the PC, protect the parts from static, and hold the module by its edges. Never touch the gold contacts with your fingers.

Use a clean, soft white eraser with short, gentle strokes. Wipe away every eraser fragment with a lint-free cloth, then use compressed air to clear the module and empty slot. Do not use sandpaper, steel wool, or a rough cloth. When reseating the RAM, line up the notch and confirm both retaining clips lock.
