How challenging it can be to start a fire with a piece of wood?

Let's skip the sweat, and engineer it out with simulation! 😎

In this video, we simulated the heat generated by the frictional interaction of surfaces with SIMULIA Abaqus. Here's a breakdown of the simulation:

🔥 A downward force of 200 N was applied to the stick
🔥 A ±50 mm movement is maintained at 3 Hz
🔥 Ambient temperature is set to 30°C
🔥 The friction coefficient between the wood pieces is 0.4
🔥 The film coefficient for heat dissipation is 12.0 W/m²/K

This fully coupled thermal stress simulation reveals just how much heat is generated. Even if sharpening the stick helps a little bit, a lighter and some newspaper might be your choice this time.

See from the video how the heat adds up!

What if you could go from design to finished part - without ever leaving SOLIDWORKS? 💭

That’s exactly what Rasi Maskinfabrik A/S does. As a high-complexity machine shop, they needed more than just any CAM system. They chose SolidCAM for a reason: It works with SOLIDWORKS, not around it. 🔗

For their team, the advantages of an integrated CAD-CAM solution are clear:
✅ Seamless CAD-to-CAM workflow right inside SOLIDWORKS
✅ Direct use of 3D-modeled tools from their tool suppliers
✅ Rapid design changes and easy part customization

No export/import hassles, no loss of data, full associativity.

In their words:
💬 “You can engineer and redesign. And you can send it back to the customer and say: Is this ok?”

That kind of speed and flexibility has transformed their shop floor (and their bottom line).

Is there even a question? Of course we're watching. ⚽👏 But more importantly, which team are you rooting for?

Did you know that it was this easy to create a reference plane in SOLIDWORKS? 😎 Press control, and drag the reference plane where you'd like it to be, and voila. You're good to go. 🙌 When would a reference plane come in handy in your design?

Oops... it seems that this gasket will leak 💧

In this simulation, we see how the seal of this pressurized connection leaks due to a reduction of compression force. The colours in the video represent the applied fluid pressure distribution.

Here’s how to simulate it using fluid pressure pe*******on loading in Abaqus:

✍️ Select surfaces to identify where the fluid pressure can possibly spread; the O-ring’s outer surfaces, fl**ge surfaces, and inner pipe surfaces.
✍️ Pinpoint starting points for fluid pressure propagation; points on the inside surfaces of the seal and both pipes.
✍️ Simulate: Applied pressure spreads from these points until it meets a contact pressure higher than a set threshold.
✍️ See how contact pressure in the seal restricts pressurized areas, initially keeping the fluid pressure inside the pipe.
✍️ External compressive force in the pipe is reduced, contact pressure decreases, allowing the pressurised area to extend between the fl**ge and the seal, eventually resulting in a leak.

🤓 Fluid pressure pe*******on loading is a good tool to simulate fluid leaks without actually modelling the fluid.

It might not quite be vacation time just yet, but that doesn't mean our minds aren't drifting to beaches, sun, and a little relaxation. ⛱️ What's your favorite summer spot?

By default, 3DEXPERIENCE search shows all revisions of a product, not just the latest, which isn’t always ideal. It’s correct data, but it creates unnecessary noise in daily CAD work. But you can easily change that.

👉 In his next video, Lars shows how to:
• Configure search to display only the latest revision on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform
• Still access older revisions when needed
• Reduce errors in design, delivery, and production workflows
