Where does China get its oil? In 2026, the answer depends on the channel.

By recorded crude value, Kazakhstan leads by a huge margin, but that is because its oil arrives by pipeline, a corridor that also carries Russian transit crude, rather than because Kazakhstan out-produces everyone. Angola and a rising United States follow.

On the seaborne side, the picture flipped: China's crude imports fell to 8.1 million barrels per day in Q2 2026, down 32%, after Strait of Hormuz disruption cut Gulf flows. Deep reserves let China wait for cheaper barrels before buying again in July.

What does Pakistan import the most?

In 2025, the biggest line was mineral fuels at US$16.72 billion, about a quarter of the whole import bill, on TradeInt records. Electrical machinery and edible oils follow.

By country, China led everything at US$20.57 billion, close to a third of all imports.

The pattern is energy plus industry: Gulf suppliers send the oil, China sends the machinery and steel. That is why the import bill rose 8.14% in the fiscal year to June 2026 even as exports fell.

Where does India get its semiconductors from?

Between January and May 2026, China led at US$2.17 billion, followed by Taiwan at US$1.84 billion and South Korea at US$1.05 billion, on TradeInt records. Those three East Asian sources carry the bulk of India's chip imports.

What's striking is where the dependence sits: processors and controllers alone account for US$3.24 billion, nearly half the basket, and domestic fabrication won't begin before mid-2028.

What does Pakistan actually export, and who buys it?

In 2025, Pakistan's biggest export was finished textile products at US$5.70 billion, and the United States was the top destination at US$5.93 billion, nearly a fifth of all exports. Knitted and woven garments follow close behind.

The interesting part: China buys a totally different basket (copper, cotton, fish) and its purchases jumped 50.7% in the first half of 2026, though the overall export total still fell.

Which country exports the most pepper in the world? In 2026, one origin dominates by a wide margin.

Vietnam exported US$761.98 million of pepper in the first half of 2026, more than six times second-placed Indonesia at US$116.14 million. Peru, India, and Mexico round out the top five. Vietnam's growth came from demand, not a bigger harvest, its share of US pepper imports climbed to nearly 80%.

The quieter shift: Latin American suppliers like Peru and Mexico are now competing directly with the traditional Asian pepper belt on export value.

Which country is the largest coal importer in 2026? The answer might surprise you.
The United States tops the global coal imports by country ranking at US$11.40 billion in H1 2026, ahead of Mexico (US$6.52B) and Venezuela (US$5.69B), despite being a major coal producer itself. Colombia alone supplied 78.1% of US coal imports in the most recent quarter, as coastal utilities chose seaborne cargo over domestic rail for cost reasons.

Global coal investment reached US$180 billion in 2026, a 14-year high, driven by energy security priorities and Southeast Asia's continued capacity buildout. Thermal coal benchmarks rose above US$118/ton in Europe in July 2026, while metallurgical grades softened on slower steel demand.

US exports grew 15.3% in early 2026. But it is not broad demand.

Non-monetary gold exports more than doubled to US$64.42 billion, and crude oil rose 46.8%.

Strip out energy and precious metals, and the manufactured-goods story is far flatter than the headline suggests.

Turkey's trade totals barely moved in Q1 2026, but the story underneath is a different one entirely.

Imports rose 4.69% and exports fell 3.17%, yet five corridors shifted hard. Russian declared energy dropped 32.2%, while almost half of Turkey's mineral-fuel imports now carry no declared country of origin. Gold imports jumped to US$8.13 billion with Switzerland supplying nearly half of it.

Meanwhile, exports to Iraq fell 20.3% as Syria climbed 78%, and the trade deficit with China widened to US$12.17 billion. The headline number tells you almost none of this.

Turkey cut its declared Russian energy imports by a third in Q1 2026. So where is the oil coming from now?

TradeInt customs data shows Russian mineral-fuel value falling from US$8.82B to US$5.98B, while Kazakhstan jumped 79.6% and Turkey's total imports still grew to US$91.89B.

Here is the twist: US$7.27B of energy now arrives under "unspecified origin", a bigger line than Russia itself. Turkey is buying differently, and reporting differently too.
