What’s more fun than Ash from Evil Dead’s chainsaw arm?!
It’s a chainsaw shootout! Yeah, baby! Bringing back the boom stick.
Today we are running three different pedals from Lone Wolf Audio, the Left Hand Path, the Left-Hand Wrath Deluxe, and the Left-Hand Wrath v 3. These are based off the infamous HM-2 circuits with some tweaks. All of these can be found online so we won’t go into the details (of course unless you want a deep dive into the circuitry that is).
First up, the Left Hand Path. The strengths: the EQ has the low mid and high mid control which can add depth to the mids unless you completely scoop them. It’s really chunky and dialing in will cut through the mix really quickly. The cons: the gain is very lacking. You don’t get much change after you pass position 3. Inside the circuit it is clearly labeled Left Hand Wrath which contradicts the naming on the outside case.
Second, the Left Hand Wrath Deluxe. The strengths: it’s fairly straight forward. It has sub and frequency k***s that the other pedals don’t have which can help shape the tone. We assume it has the “modern” second footswitch. We say assume because it is not labeled. The modern second footswitch adds more “beef” to the sound. The blend k**b is very effective. You can add the dry tone fairly easily.
Cons: it’s a pain in the ass to read because of the font used. The in and out jacks are not labeled. The build inside is a bit unstable as it is just floating around. Adding googly eyes can make the sound chunkier. The frequency doesn’t do a lot to the sound. Neither does the sub k**b.
Third, the Left Hand Wrath v 3. The strengths: Built like a fu***ng brick. Super thicc. The footswitches are actually labeled and have different colored LEDs. The in and out jacks are also labeled. The voice control is a 3 way switch which is unique. The first position is a basic HM-2 setting and gets super beefy with the middle position. However, the furthest right setting thin and drops volume.
Cons: The internal components are just kind of floating there like the other two. Opening up the pedal and there was a very long hair wrapped around the circuitry. The inscriptions inside sound like a drunk’s lamentations which reads “a decade of unrivaled dominance at the top of the mountain, but only half way up. Its still the fu***ng best. Think about it.”
Take away: The Left Hand Wrath v 3 sounds the best overall. It has more versatility and can get more sound out of it than the other two. It seems like with the Deluxe the maker wanted to get more versatility but it didn’t quite hit the mark. The consistency between the pedals does not seem to be there as the Left Hand Path (Internal Wrath) sounds different with the gain k**b. The internal circuitry seems to be similar and he is just adding smaller circuit boards to them. All three pedals have circuit boards that are clearly labeled Left Hand Wrath.
If we would recommend a pedal out of this series, it would be the Left Hand Wrath v3 as it is the most consistent, and produces a brutal chainsaw tone. Plus, it reminds us of an ice cream sandwich. If we were to suggest a boutique HM-2 pedal it would be the Drunk Beaver Heavy Bat.
