🎃 Happy Halloween from us to you! 🎃

All of us at Georgia Relay would like to wish you a safe and spooky Halloween night. Here are some tips to follow for a safe night trick-or-treating.

👻 Check hearing aid batteries before leaving the house
👻 Give flashlights or glow sticks to make sure costumes are easily seen
👻 Walk in groups with adult supervision
👻 Choose a costume that does not muffle hearing or limit sight

We hope today is filled with haunted houses, ghosts, and buckets of candy!

DeafBlind Service (DBS) allows individuals with combined hearing and vision loss to place and receive telephone calls. DBS users type their messages and read the other person's responses, typed by the Communication Asistant (CA), on a braille display.

⚠️ Specialized telecommunications equipment like a TeleBraille or DeafBlind communicator is required. ⚠️

Our Communication Assistants (CAs) are trained operators who listen and repeat conversations for people who are deaf, hard of hearing, deaf-blind, and who have difficulty speaking. These workers are the key to telecommunication here at Georgia Relay. 🗝️🍑

🚨 CAs maintain absolute confidentiality through all conversations. 🚨

Making Relay calls is simple with Georgia Relay. We offer an array of telecommunications services specifically designed with users' needs in mind. Here are six things to keep in mind before you begin your first Relay call. 📞

1️⃣ Dial 7-1-1 to begin your Georgia Relay call.

2️⃣ Say GA or “Go Ahead’ when you finish your part of the conversation, this alerts the other person to respond.

3️⃣ Communication Assistants (CAs) are operators who are trained to handle any type of Relay call. They relay messages back and forth when needed.

4️⃣ TTYs are Text Telephones. People who are deaf, hard of hearing, or who have difficulty speaking typically use a TTY to make calls through Georgia Relay.

5️⃣ If you hear, “Hello, this is Georgia Relay”, DON’T hang up. A skilled CA will help you through the call and show you the benefits of our services.

6️⃣ You will not be charged for local or long-distance calls. Payments are necessary for international calls, directory assistance, pay phones, and pay-per-call services.

Today is the beginning of National Braille Week, a time celebrating the writing system that enables individuals who are blind or low vision to read and write. As users move their fingers across a series of dots, they recognize letters, numbers, and symbols.

Below are some ways you can celebrate and honor those who use this form of communication:
🖐️ Learn braille
📚 Promote braille books
✅ Attend or organize events
🧑‍🦯‍➡️ Connect with someone who is blind or low vision

Show your support to the braille community this week!
