20% less road time. Billing cut from 5 days to hours.

Tidy Services runs multiple lines — solid waste, liquid waste, roll-offs, portable toilets — but was still leaning on paper route sheets and driver memory to get trucks through their day, with no digital proof of service when a customer disputed a job.

In 2025, they moved onto Routeware Elements to unify dispatch, billing, routing, and field data across every service line in one platform: photo capture at every stop, NFC tag scanning for equipment, and route optimization sequencing the day automatically.

The results speak for themselves: ~20% less road time, ~10% in fuel savings, and a billing cycle that went from five days down to hours.

“I never could do that before with the old system, because I couldn’t show a map of every stop that I go to. Now it’s part of our pitch when we talk to a company about acquiring them,” says Steve Ritter, General Manager.

Route optimization also changed how they staff trucks: "I don't need a guy that has the knowledge—I just need a guy that can read a map."

Few vehicles work harder than a collection truck. They're stop-and-go all day, with heavy shifting loads, hydraulics and packer blades cycling thousands of times a shift. That workload wears a truck down fast, and when one fails mid-route, the cost is never just the repair bill. It's the stranded load, the unserved stops, and the scramble to finish the day with fewer trucks.

The weakest link in most maintenance programs isn't the inspection, but the handoff after it. A defect noted on a paper sheet Monday can turn into a roadside breakdown Thursday, with no one able to say where the note got lost.

Our latest blog, Fleet Maintenance for Waste Fleets, breaks down why maintaining a collection fleet is different from maintaining any other commercial vehicle, and how connecting driver inspections directly to the maintenance queue closes that gap before it costs you a route.

Medical waste collection doesn't leave room for error. Every container is a regulated item that has to be tracked from pickup to treatment facility with a documented chain of custody — where a missed stop isn't just a service failure and a lost manifest isn't just paperwork, but compliance risks.

Running that kind of operation on paper manifests and manual scheduling means the proof your business depends on can go missing between the cab and the office, right when a regulator asks for it.

Our latest blog, Medical Waste Solutions for Collection Operations, looks at what it takes to run a tighter, audit-ready medical waste business; from digital manifests to lean routing that never risks a regulated pickup.

A route built for your city today won't stay accurate for long. A new subdivision opens, a service area shifts, a truck breaks down, and the route that was optimized on day one starts drifting further from reality with every change that follows.

Concord, North Carolina felt this directly: routes designed in 2019 couldn't keep pace with the city's growth, and operators ended up regularly working 10-hour days just to finish.

Our latest blog, Dynamic Route Optimization: Why Static Routes Fail Municipal Fleets, breaks down the difference between a route that's planned once and left to run, and one that adapts in real time — rebalancing as stops are added, vehicles go down, or a day runs long.
