Scammers are getting better at making fake emails look real. Often going so far as to send messages that appear to come directly from your company. That’s why securing your domain isn’t optional anymore. It’s one of the most important steps you can take to protect your clients, your reputation, and your team.

DMARC, SPF, and DKIM are three DNS records that work together to stop bad actors from impersonating your business. These tools verify who’s allowed to send email on your behalf, block spoofed messages and give visibility into attempts to misuse your domain.

To learn more about what these records do and don’t protect against when it comes to securing your domain, read the full blog: → https://www.techriver.com/2026/08/10/how-to-stop-scammers-from-sending-emails-in-your-companys-name/

You're probably holding way more customer data than you need: old card numbers, files from clients who left years ago. If you don't need it, it's just data for a hacker to steal. Delete what you've no reason to keep, old payment details first. You can't lose what you don't have.

What does the Minnesota State Fair and your IT environment have in common?

Just like the fairgrounds, your business tech can get crowded fast, and not always with friendly faces. So, while you’re grabbing cheese curds and hitting a concert at the Grandstand, make sure your systems aren’t left open to any unwanted visitors.

Cyber threats love a busy season, and there's no time much busier than the State Fair, so implement measures to secure your networks, monitor for unusual activity, and ensure your data backups are as reliable as your favorite fair food.

Give your business the blue-ribbon treatment with tech that’s protected, patched, and ready for anything.

Team Spotlight - David

At Tech River, our goal is to help our clients build an IT infrastructure that’s stable, predictable, and secure, so that they can focus on what really matters — growing their business with confidence.

We wouldn’t be able to do that without a team that isn’t willing to take on a challenge, so luckily, we have team members like David, who enjoys transforming chaotic (or sometimes even nonexistent) technology environments into cohesive foundations that allow our clients to thrive.

Building strong relationships with our clients and making sure they’re set up for long-term success is a core value at Tech River, and we’re so grateful that David is committed to doing so from day one. Thank you, David, for being such a dedicated member of our team!

If your team has a different password for every app, single sign-on is simpler, and you may already own it in Microsoft 365. One login opens everything. When someone leaves, switch off that one account and they lose all access. Fewer passwords to leak.

Once-a-year security training does almost nothing. People forget it in weeks. A 5-minute reminder once a month sticks far better, especially when it uses real scams like fake 'paste this' prompts. And make it safe to report a click with no blame, so you catch attacks early.

Do you maintain immutable, air-gapped, or offline backups of your critical business data?
If you came across this question on a cyber insurance application, would you know how to answer?

To qualify for a policy, insurers need to confirm that backed up data can’t be deleted or modified by anyone for a fixed amount of time — even someone with administrator credentials. That’s what immutable backup means, and it’s important for improving the chance of your data being recovered in the event that the wrong person (e.g. anyone using stolen admin credentials) gains access to your network.

Want to learn more about which backup setups do not fit the bill, what questions you should be sending to your IT provider before submitting your insurance form, and what you should do if, come renewal time, you don’t have an immutable backup solution in place?
