A storage LUN can be presented correctly and still remain invisible to the operating system.
In this OpenVMS migration, the SAN configuration, zoning, and HBA settings were all correct, but the boot LUN still wouldn’t appear. The missing piece was manually mapping the WWID and UID through the console before initialization.
Lesson: In legacy environments, storage visibility often depends on both:
- SAN-side configuration
- OS-level device registration
Sometimes the infrastructure is working perfectly—the system just hasn’t been told how to recognize it yet.
