Santa Barbara MTD expanded The Wave, its on-demand microtransit service, to Carpinteria after 17 months in Goleta and Isla Vista. Free transfers to fixed-route buses, a phased-in fare, and wheelchair accessibility built in from launch, all funded by a one-time state grant. The real question now: what sustains it after that funding runs out?

Congratulations to Senior Resource Association / GoLine on winning APTA's 2026 Outstanding Public Transportation System Achievement Award. GoLine hit its highest ridership in 35 years and has held the lowest operating cost per trip in Florida for a decade running. Karen Deigl and Chris Stephenson accepted the award on the agency's behalf in Chicago. Well-earned recognition for a great team.
