We recently hosted a happy hour at Relativity’s Chicago headquarters for our newest community resource group, RelRise.

RelRise is a community for Relativians early in their careers, focused on building skills, networks, and confidence to rise in their occupations. Through peer learning, mentorship, and exposure to new ideas, members build momentum while strengthening their sense of belonging at Relativity.

We love seeing our team come together for professional development.

Read each one, make your call, and see how your decisions line up against Kevin Reiss of Redgrave, Jessica Maurer of Relativity, Ray Mangum’s aiR Review instructions, and a 24-person first-pass review team.

On the Relativity Blog, Aurora Bryant walks through how the study ran, what a second expert made of the same documents, and what the disagreements actually looked like up close. Recall and precision summarize thousands of decisions, but they don’t show you what a close call feels like.

In pro bono work, how do you earn an attorney's trust in a new tool like AI? How do you match the right tool to the right task? And how do you hold every matter to the same professional standards when even errant technology tends to sound so sure of itself?

Most teams meet Assist and aiR Review separately. They show up at different points in a matter and they do different work, so that’s fair enough. But product leader Maks Babuder makes the case on the Relativity Blog that they belong together, and that the real line between them isn’t early case versus review. It’s the shape of the question you’re asking.

Assist answers questions and hands back a cited answer quickly. aiR Review accounts for every document, with a call and a rationale for each one. Questions on one side, coverage on the other.

The post walks through three ways to pair them. Use Assist to build the sample you iterate against. Run an aiR Review pass first so your Assist conversations happen against documents that earned their place. Scope a custom analysis with a few quick questions before you write it.

There’s also a useful reminder on validation. Curated samples are for developing. Random samples are for proving.

Some lawyers assume that using AI well requires technical skills they don’t have. CJ Mahoney of Cleary Gottlieb and Ankur Malik of Clifford Chance, both 2026 , make the case that the opposite is closer to true.

Today’s tools run on natural language prompting, and crafting precise, probing questions is already core to the job, whether that’s a cross-examination, a deposition, or a set of interrogatories. Prompting is that same skill in a new medium.

On the Relativity Blog, they talk through how to build confidence through testing, how to make AI work traceable from the start, and how to have the conversation with a client who isn’t sold yet. On that last point, CJ recommends leading with how you’re mitigating risk and helping clients see that their existing processes aren’t risk free either.
