Bringing visibility to the disability community through art.

Is there a more noble mission, especially if you are an artist?

When asked me to redesign the visual identity for Portrait of a Soul, it was a pretty easy "Heck yes!"
of.a.soul connects children and adults with disabilities with local artists to collaboratively create portraits that reflect identity, story and self-expression. Through this creative partnership, we expand representation and champion disability inclusion. Their partnership with connects children and adults with artists to tell these stories.

The Portrait of a Soul vision is this:
A world where individuals with disabilities are represented with dignity, agency and authenticity so that every person is seen and valued on their own terms.

Every person to truly be SEEN. I love that! The identity was created with that in mind.

Thank you so much, and Michelle Blades for the opportunity to work with you on your rebrand. You will forever have an advocate for your organization and your mission.

Certainly, it does invite the notion of maybe too simple, too clean, and not much of a point of view at all. After all, is it just a flavorless off-white?

I have to say, I dig it. More than anything, I love the notion of it. The idea of quiet and a refuge from the noise feels pretty needed right now.

And being the silly designer-illustrator at heart that I am, I had to create this little dude just for fun. Lighthearted and simple - that’s how I see this color of the year.
