Slogans That Inspire

It may only be Fall 2026, but anticipation is building for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games. As the first Summer Games taking place on U.S. soil since Atlanta 1996, all eyes will be on the City of Angels. And Team Axio will be working alongside our friends at the USOPC in the months ahead. A key component dropped just this week, with the official slogan for the Games unveiled as “Stars Align.” It’s everything a good slogan should be: succinct, memorable, and strategic on multiple levels. The timeless, glamorous appeal of Tinseltown is invoked alongside a nod to the USA’s fan-favorite athletes, in addition to a nod to the sense of unity which is central to the Olympic & Paralympic Values themselves. Not bad for two words! Check out LA28’s cool reveal video to see it all come to life.

Weighty Words

Fonts can be very personal, and when utilized strategically, visually embody the unique attributes of a brand or product. They can become a storytelling device, and savvy designers often deploy them as such—we certainly do here at Axio. And nothing lights up our eyes quite like a truly custom font, bespoke and purpose-built. We came across a cool recent example utilized by the London-based football club Arsenal, whose rich 140-year history offers fertile ground for meaningful creative exploration. This season, the club’s marketing has featured a custom typeface honoring (and named for) a beloved former player—this creates a direct connection to the fanbase and the style, distinctly English, evokes chivalry and grace, attributes longtime supporters of the club will associate with the star midfielder. Legibility matters, of course, and so the club wisely uses the font only as a splashy accent, adorning social media and stadium graphics as well as match-day memorabilia like programs and apparel. All part of a winning strategy.

A Lovely Library

If you’re anything like your design nerd pals at Axio, you’ll be pleased to know that good old-fashioned creative is alive and well, particularly in the world of consumer media. Physical products are again having a bit of a moment — uniquely the juxtaposed opposite of all things AI. The result has been a refreshing surge in bespoke, creator-driven packaging design in video games, vinyl albums, home video and particularly deluxe-ified treatments of books. Take a trip to your local bookseller and you’ll see rows of titles adorned with foiled covers, rich illustrations, and most surprisingly—accessible pricing. The examples highlighted in this post from Penguin Random House check all three of those boxes. This speaks to a very strategic, humanistic refocus on the joy of reading, the ritual experience of curing up in a comfy chair with a good book, and the collectability of its volumes. Sign us up!

Pets on Parade

As cooler temperatures roll in, the leaves begin to change, and your local Spirit Halloween locations start to appear, it’s clear that spooky season has arrived! The pet lovers at Team Axio enjoy when our four-legged friends get in on the fun, and the costumes seem to get more creative with each passing year. We’re seeing some amazing ones in store this October: pets dressed as people; pets dressed as vehicles; pets dressed as monsters; and even pets dressed as other pets. Got any plans for your pet? Please be sure to share with us!

Thinking Outside the Phone

For parents hesitant to hand over the reins of smartphone technology to their children, the new Freckle phone offers an appealing pitch: no internet browser; no social media; the ability to call and text approved contacts only; and a bevy of tracking and safety features. This streamlined functionality is intended as a feature, not a bug, as Freckle is focused on an experience that is decidedly kid-centric, offering a gentle onboarding into the wild world of mobile devices. The retro-loving design nerds at Axio are big fans of the aesthetic—chunky, brightly colored and bristling with tactile buttons that beg to be pressed. Were it not for the touchscreen, you might mistake the device for a viral fidget cube. There are also clever features that reward the curiosity of youth: a smart discovery camera that identifies flora and fauna; the ability to interact with parent-provided “quests”, which gamify otherwise mundane tasks; and a walkie-talkie mode enabled by tapping two Freckles together. The Freckle looks to be a fun and thoughtful addition to the gadget landscape and we hope it finds its footing! (Image credit: Freckle)

In Living Color

A designer has many tools at their disposal, from tech, to type, to taste. Among the most important of these is color, which we employ to help convey a brand’s personality and purpose. And when it comes to color, there is no higher authority than Pantone, as our vast collection of swatchbooks and test strips will attest. So, when Pantone launches the first major expansion to their vaunted Matching System since 2022—as they announced last week—astute creatives sit up and take notice. These 224 new colors define a larger, instructive trendline. And this new trend is driven by Gen-Z: loud, vivid and intentional. A maximal response to the minimalism so prevalent in recent years. Fresh thinking is part of our DNA at Team Axio so this new Pantone system has our attention, as we look for purposeful ways to apply an unexpected jolt of color. (Image credit: Pantone)

Making a Splash

The Olympic and Paralympic Games Los Angeles 2028 may seem like the distant future, but there’s plenty of world-class international competition happening right now. Axio recently had the privilege of partnering with U.S. Paralympic Swimming to design some experiential graphics and signage for the 2026 Para Pan Pacific Swimming Championships in California. We always relish the opportunity to play with a vivid color palette, and this event provided the perfect backdrop to showcase the incredible athletes hitting the pool. Team USA was a constant on the podium throughout the event, notching 16 total medals including six golds. Bravo! (Photo credit: Bear’s Production)

Today marks the 25th anniversary of a day no American will ever forget. Today, on Patriot Day, we hope you’ll take a moment to join the Axio team in remembering and honoring those lost on September 11, 2001. Amidst the unthinkable tragedy, it was also a day that demonstrated the resolve and heroism we are capable of, embodied by first responders and all who leapt into the fray without fear nor hesitation. We remember, on the worst day imaginable, we saw the best of us shine through. May we honor them by moving forward with strength, compassion, and a renewed sense of unity. .

Athletic Aesthetic

Team Axio loves some Air Force Falcons football, and we also love the creativity exhibited through their ongoing Air Power Legacy Series of alternate uniforms. This year’s edition puts the spotlight on the iconic B-21 stealth bomber, bringing its sleek and intimidating profile to the fore. The unis are replete with thoughtful detailing, from the helmet camo and shoulder patches to the mission-oriented thematic nameplates. We also dig the clever incorporation of the red “remove before flight” towels which add a pop of vibrant color to the dark metallic ensemble. This season marks the tenth year of the Air Power Legacy Series and we always look forward to the reveals—bravo and Go Falcons! (Image credit: Air Force Falcons Football)
