The 2026 wine market reports don't make for easy reading.

There are 50% more U.S. wineries today than a decade ago — yet market volume is roughly the same as it was then. Less than 25% of wineries report no excess inventory. Nearly a quarter lost a primary distributor in 2025. DTC shipment volume dropped 15%, pulling the channel back to 2016 levels.

And yet, thousands of wineries grew in 2025 anyway.

The BMO Wine Market Report describes them as "leaner, more efficient and leveraging new technology to do more and faster than ever." The Azur Associates 2026 Outlook frames the common thread plainly: "The more you measure, the more you manage."
