𝗙𝘂𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗛𝗼𝗺𝗲 & 𝗖𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗖𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗼𝘄𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀: "𝘊𝘳𝘦𝘮𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘧𝘢𝘮𝘪𝘭𝘪𝘦𝘴 𝘰𝘯𝘭𝘺 𝘤𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘢𝘣𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘱𝘳𝘪𝘤𝘦..."

We hear this almost every week. It's only half true.

In August alone, people in the US searched "cremation" on Google 60,500 times. Those searches don't all come from the same kind of family.

Most families are a mix of these five:

💰 Price. They want the lowest cost.
⭐ Trust. They read your Google reviews before your prices.
📋 The offer. They compare what's in each package.
⏱️ Speed. They pick whoever answers first.
🕊️ Premium. They want to know they chose well.

A price cut only speaks entirely to the first group.

So before you lower your prices, do the math. Say each cremation leaves you $900 after costs. Cut your price by $450 and you need twice as many families just to earn what you earn today.

Do you have a plan to double your calls?

If not, work on the other four first. Get more reviews. Make your packages easy to understand. Answer the phone faster.

A few price shopper calls are not a reason to pivot your whole business.

Funeral Home & Cremation Center Owners

A family arrived at your website last night, they looked around and then left without you even realising they were there...

They saw your homepage.

They stared at the menu with all of its options.

The blog, the obituaries, the about us...

They're distressed. Someone just died. They have one question: "𝘊𝘢𝘯 𝘐 𝘵𝘳𝘶𝘴𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘧𝘶𝘯𝘦𝘳𝘢𝘭 𝘩𝘰𝘮𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘩𝘦𝘭𝘱 𝘮𝘦 𝘵𝘰𝘯𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵?"

They couldn't find the answers on your website within 10 seconds. So they hit back and called someone else.

𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗻𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻 𝗸𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲.

Your website was overwhelming, so they left to visit a competitor.

Funeral Homes & Cremation Center Owners

Your competitors are probably paying to show up above your business on Google right now. 😅

Here's what that means in plain English.

A family Googles "Smith Family Funeral Home". They already know you. They're ready to call. But a competitor's ad appears at the top first.

The family clicks it. They think it's you, 𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗱𝗼𝗻'𝘁 𝗻𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗶𝘁 𝗶𝘀𝗻'𝘁.

They call your competitor. You never know it happened.

This is happening across America.

The fix is simple: A Google Ads brand campaign.

Here's why it makes sense for multi-location operators specifically:

📍 Each of your locations has its own name and reputation. Every name you leave unprotected is an open door for a competitor.

💰 Brand ads are the cheapest Google Ads you'll ever run. You have the highest quality score for your own name — so while a competitor might pay $5–$8 per click to show up for your name, you typically pay $0.30–$1.

📞 You control where the click goes. Send families to the right location page, not just a generic homepage.

🛡️ $100–$300 per month. Losing one family costs far more than that. The funeral homes dominating their local markets all run brand ads. They stopped thinking of it as an expense. They treat it as insurance.

Protection that ensures families who are searching for you actually find you first.

𝗙𝘂𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗛𝗼𝗺𝗲 & 𝗖𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗖𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗢𝘄𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀

I ask this question every single time I meet with a funeral home owner from outside our program... 🧠

"𝘖𝘶𝘵 𝘰𝘧 𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘮𝘰𝘯𝘦𝘺 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘴𝘱𝘦𝘯𝘥 𝘰𝘯 𝘢𝘵-𝘯𝘦𝘦𝘥 𝘮𝘢𝘳𝘬𝘦𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘰𝘯𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘦... 𝘤𝘢𝘯 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘷𝘦 𝘸𝘩𝘢𝘵'𝘴 𝘢𝘤𝘵𝘶𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘨?"

Not a guess. Real numbers.

Here's what I hear almost every time:

😶 Silence. Or "I think Facebook/Google Ads are doing something."

Here's the problem:

If you can't prove a channel works, you're not investing — you're gambling.

The 5 numbers every funeral home should track each month:

🔢 Cost Per Inquiry — how much does it cost to get one family to reach out?

🔢 Cost Per Arrangement — how much does it cost to turn that call into a contract?

🔢 Average Case Value — what is a cremation or burial actually worth to you?

🔢 Return on Ad Spend — for every $1 you put in, how many come back?

🔢 Close Rate — out of 10 families who call, how many say yes?

Most funeral homes track zero of these.

When you know your numbers, everything changes. You stop burning money on marketing that doesn't work. You put more into what does. 🧡

Can't tell if your marketing actually makes money? You're not alone. Most funeral homes spend thousands on ads without knowing their ROI. Here are the 5 numbers you need to track (plus a free spreadsheet to do it).

𝗙𝘂𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗛𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗢𝘄𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀

Your competitors' Google reviews are free market research. Families are literally telling you what they want and don't want in a funeral home. 🔍

Here's exactly how to use AI to analyze them in about 20-30 minutes.

𝗦𝘁𝗲𝗽 𝟭: 𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄𝘀

Go to Google and search for your top 3 competitors. Open their Google Business profiles. Copy and paste their reviews into a Doc. Aim for at least 50-100 reviews total.

𝗦𝘁𝗲𝗽 𝟮: 𝗨𝘀𝗲 𝗔𝗜 𝘁𝗼 𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗹𝘆𝘇𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺

Go to ChatGPT.com (it's free). Paste all the reviews you collected. Then use this prompt:

"Analyze these funeral home reviews and tell me:
1) The top 5 things families complain about most,
2) The top 5 things families praise most,
3) What specific staff qualities or behaviors families mention,
4) Any opportunities you see for a competing funeral home based on these patterns."

The AI will read everything and give you clear patterns in seconds.

𝗦𝘁𝗲𝗽 𝟯: 𝗨𝘀𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗯𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀

- Update your website to address the common concerns you found.
- Train your staff based on what families actually value in your market.
- Use this language in your marketing, talk about what local families care about.

𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝘀:

Families in your community are telling you exactly what influences their funeral home decisions. 𝗔𝗜 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗽𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺 𝗮𝘁 𝗼𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝗼𝗳 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀.

Most funeral homes never look at competitor reviews. Use the prompt in the post above to begin researching your competition and generate a list of ideas on how you can gain a competitive advantage.

𝗙𝘂𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗵𝗼𝗺𝗲 & 𝗖𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗖𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀: Your website might be getting hundreds of visitors every month, but do at-need families take the next step and inquire?

The truth is, most websites aren't built for at-need families needs, they are a maze of pages that add friction rather than make things easier for the family.

An informational website tells families who you are. It has your history, your staff, your services. It looks fine. Families visit, read around, and leave.

A successful website does one job: It helps grieving families to know why they should trust you, how you help and makes it easy for them to reach out.

Here's how to tell which one you have:

📊 𝗖𝗵𝗲𝗰𝗸 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗯𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗚𝗼𝗼𝗴𝗹𝗲 𝗔𝗻𝗮𝗹𝘆𝘁𝗶𝗰𝘀
If most visitors leave within 10–20 seconds without clicking anything — your site is informing, not helping. Exclude obituary traffic though.

📞 𝗖𝗵𝗲𝗰𝗸 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗽𝗵𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗰𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗸𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗰𝗸𝗲𝗱
If you don't know how many people tapped your number from your website last month, you're flying blind.

🔍 𝗖𝗵𝗲𝗰𝗸 𝗚𝗼𝗼𝗴𝗹𝗲 𝗦𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗼𝗹𝗲
Which search terms is your site actually showing up for? If it's mostly your brand name and not "cremation near me" or "funeral home in [city]" — you're only reaching people who already know you.

📉 𝗥𝘂𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗵
A typical under-optimized funeral home website turns 1 person out of 100 into an inquiry

A properly built turns 3-5 visitors out of 100 into an inquiry.

On 500 monthly visitors, that's the difference between 5 inquiries and 15–25.

Your website isn't a trophy. It's a tool. And right now it may be the most expensive free thing you own.

Funeral home owners... you pull out your phone, open Google and search "𝘤𝘳𝘦𝘮𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘯𝘦𝘢𝘳 𝘮𝘦".

Your funeral home appears at the top.

You relax, knowing you're winning the race.

The unfortunate reality is though that Google is probably lying to you.

You see, Google is trying to be helpful. And they know that you have searched for your own funeral home on multiple occasions before. So they show your funeral home first, to make life easy, so you don't have to hunt around for your favourite funeral home on Google online.

Also, you're probably searching on your own phone from your office in your funeral home, meaning that due to proximity Google wants to show you the most relevant location. And if you're literally sitting in your funeral home, it's again more likely to push you up the search results.

How to get an honest view of where your funeral home ranks?

Does your funeral home shows up #1 on Google when you search from your phone? But is that really the true picture of where you stand on Google... 🤔

Here's what most funeral home owners don't realise.

Google doesn't show every family the same results.

Where in your city someone is searching from changes everything.

A family searching "cremation near me" from a community 5-miles north of your location may never see you on Google.

Not because your SEO is bad. But because a competitor has stronger SEO signals in that specific area.

This is why appearing at the top of Google in your own zip code doesn't mean you will show up 5-miles to the north.

One funeral home owner we work with was convinced his SEO was great. He showed up first every time he searched. Then we ran a report across his full service area. The results were poor.

He was showing up at the top of Google within 1-mile of his properly, but every where else he was on page 2.

His competitor, with fewer reviews and a smaller operation, was dominating those areas. They had set the basics up properly.

Understanding your Google visibility means checking your position across every ZIP code and every neighbourhood inside your service radius (7,15 or 30 mile radius etc).

If you usually check your Google position by searching on your phone then it's about time you saw where your funeral home really shows up on Google across your service area.

We built a tool to make this easy...

Your funeral home shows up #1 on Google when you search from your phone. So why is the competitor across town busier than you? 🤔

Here's what most funeral home owners don't realise.

Google doesn't show every family the same results. 𝗪𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 someone is searching from changes everything.

A family searching "cremation near me" from a retirement community 6 miles north of your location may never see your name. Not because your SEO is bad. But because a competitor has stronger SEO signals in that specific area.

This is why appearing at the top of Google in your own zip code doesn't mean you will show up 5-miles to the north.

One funeral home owner we work with was convinced his SEO was solid. He showed up first every time he searched. Then we ran a 25-point grid across his full service area.
The results were poor.

He was showing up at the top of Google within 1-mile of his properly, but every where else he was on page 2.

His competitor, with fewer reviews and a smaller operation, was dominating those areas. They had set the basics up properly.

Real local SEO visibility means checking your rankings across every ZIP code, every neighborhood inside your service radius — not just the exact location your funeral home sits in.

If you've never seen how you appear on Google to at-need families, find out where you actually stand by using our no-cost report.
