Can I save you a whole lot of time (and probably money)?

More apps do not equal a better website!!

Somewhere along the way, people started treating websites like Pokémon. Gotta catch 'em all. 😂

A pop-up app. A reviews app. A countdown timer. A chat widget. A loyalty app. Three different upsell apps...

Before you know it, your website is slower, clunkier, and honestly just overwhelming.

Every app you add should have a job. If it isn't making your customers' lives easier or helping your business grow, why is it there?

A great website isn't the one with the most features. It's the one that feels effortless to use. Simple almost always wins.Your customers aren't impressed by how many bells and whistles you have. They just want to find what they need, trust your brand, and check out without wanting to throw their laptop across the room.

More isn't better. Better is better.

Stop saying your website doesn’t matter.

You shop online. Probably more than you’d like to admit. 😂

From the couch, in bed, while watching Netflix, at 11 PM when you should absolutely be sleeping.

And guess what? SO DO YOUR CUSTOMERS.

Even the ones who love coming into your store are probably checking your website first. Looking at new arrivals, comparing prices, checking sizes, seeing what’s in stock, or just casually browsing before deciding to stop by.

And most of that? Happening on their PHONES.

So if your website takes forever to load, looks wonky on mobile, or makes people work way too hard to find what they want… you might be losing them before they even get to the good stuff.

Your storefront has a whole vibe. Your website should too. And it should be just as easy to shop.

Because your customers aren't only shopping when your doors are open.

Michele had a little confession to make...

“I HATED sending people to my website.”

YES. Michelle actually said that.

But that was BEFORE we got our hands on it.

Fast forward to today, and she's proudly sharing her website, getting compliments on her branding, and shipping orders in custom bags she absolutely LOVES.

We caught up with Michele from Gretchen's Kids Boutique at the Boutique Summit, where she also found out her brand made it into our 2026 Lookbook!

And of course, Jessica had to ask how things REALLY went working with Hot Mess. 👀

Michele told us she didn't even have the full vision figured out. But when our designer, Brittani, showed her what she'd come up with?

THAT WAS IT. No changes needed.

And the packaging? Extra special because Gretchen's Kids Boutique is named after her daughter.

HAPPY 6TH HOT MESS-IVERSARY, SHAR!!! 🎂💖

Someone please explain how it's been SIX YEARS already?!

Six years of making brands look incredible, putting up with our ideas, watching Hot Mess change approximately a million times + being the person we trust to make the magic happen.

If you've worked with Hot Mess over the years, there's a very good chance Shar has had something to do with making your brand look as good as it does.

She's the kind of designer who can take someone's very specific, very hard-to-explain vision and somehow just GET IT. Every brand gets its own personality, its own little details, its own moment.

But beyond being ridiculously talented, she's been such a huge part of building Hot Mess into what it is today. And honestly, one of my favorite things about having Shar on this team is knowing that she cares about the little details just as much as we do.

We've done A LOT together over these six years. A lot of projects, a lot of changes, a lot of learning, and a whole lot of really good memories.

Shar, thank you for sticking around through all the Hot Mess eras. We adore you. I'm so proud of what we've built together, and so grateful you're part of it.

Meet the human behind the magic. ✨

Next up is Jackie, or Jack. Jackie is our Website Wrangler, which feels pretty accurate considering she’s the one making sure all the moving pieces actually work the way they’re supposed to.

She’s a big picture thinker who knows the details matter, but also knows when to pull back and make sure every choice is still serving the main goal. She’s also the person triple and quadruple checking that every link goes where it should, every button works, and nothing sends you somewhere completely random.

Basically, if you click it and it works, Jackie Veroneau probably checked it more times than necessary. 😂

Her favorite projects are the ones where the client is genuinely passionate about what they do and excited to see that passion reflected in their website.

Give her a clear vision and someone who can’t wait to bring it to life, and she’s in. When she’s not wrangling websites, you’ll probably find her in the craft room.

She has more hobbies than she can count and loves having something creative to match whatever mood she’s in.

And then there are the sharks. Shark Week, JAWS marathons, shark tracker notifications, trips to the aquarium… every day is basically shark girl summer. 🦈

Maybe you CAN build the whole Shopify site yourself.

But do you actually want to??

There’s a big difference.

Your time is probably better spent running your business, serving your customers + doing the things only YOU can do, NOT watching another tutorial trying to figure out how to make your website look the way it does in your head.
You don’t have to wear every hat just because you own the business.

Find people who understand the vision + let them do what they’re good at.
