Cybersecurity Awareness Month may be ending, but good security habits shouldn't.

Strong passwords. MFA. A second look at suspicious messages. Keeping devices updated. The small things you do every day add up.

Keep it locked down.

Some software eventually stops receiving security updates.

When that happens, it may be time to upgrade or replace it rather than rely on protection that can no longer be repaired.

Software updates aren't just about new features.

They can also fix security weaknesses in the apps and devices you already use. Don't leave those cracks open.

Having security tools installed is only part of the job.

They need to be turned on and working to help protect you. Take a moment to make sure the protections on your devices are active.

Reporting a suspicious message can do more than protect your own account.

It may help your organization spot a larger phishing attempt and protect someone else from falling for it too.

Facebook can scan photos on your phone that you've never posted. Not the ones you shared. The ones sitting in your camera roll.

There's a setting called camera roll cloud processing. When it's on, Facebook uploads your photos to Meta's servers on an ongoing basis. Then it runs AI over them: Faces. Locations. Themes. The people in your photos, including your kids.

The good news? You can shut it off in under a minute.
Step 1: Open the Facebook app → Menu → Settings and Privacy → Settings → Camera roll sharing suggestions. Toggle off camera roll cloud processing.
Step 2: Limit what Facebook can see on your phone. Most people miss this one. Even with the toggle off, Facebook can still access your whole photo library if your phone allows it.
On iPhone: Settings → Privacy → Photos → Facebook → Selected Photos or None.
On Android: Settings → Apps → Facebook → Permissions → Photos and Videos → Don't allow.

Two quick changes. Your family's photos stay yours.

“Act now.”
“Immediate action required.”
“You have 10 minutes.”

Creating urgency can be a way to get you to act before you think. Slow down and check the request first.

“Your package is delayed. Click here.”

Before you click, go directly to the company's website or app and check there instead. The same habit works for unexpected account and payment alerts too.
