This case took us from a hallway light fixture to a well pump!

After Ting detected arcing signals in a customer's South Carolina home, troubleshooting with our Fire Safety Team narrowed it down to a faulty light fixture in a hallway that needed a simple bulb changed.

But this homeowner actually had two separate arcing signals. The second led here – damaged underground wiring on their well pump motor. Once a technician replaced the wiring, the arcing signals were finally resolved. Two hazards mitigated, and one safer home. 🏡

That outlet that won’t hold a plug? It can be one of those ‘future me will handle it’ problems, but it shouldn’t be.

Outlets are designed to hold plugs firmly in place. If plugs are slipping or sagging out of the sockets, it usually means there’s a loose connection. This can cause dangerous arcing or glowing electrical hazards that produce significant heat resulting in melted or charred outlets, damaged wiring insulation, and greatly increased potential to ignite surrounding wall materials."

If you notice an outlet doing this, stop using it and have a qualified electrician take a closer look. A good rule of thumb is to upgrade your outlets about every 20 years. Between technology, design, and usage, all receptacles become outdated and can form dangerous loose connections like this.
