Last week, Flood-Con installed our 10th Automated Outlet Structure (AOS) in the state of Tennessee, this time in Gallatin.

That milestone reflects a broader shift in how stormwater systems are designed—an Automated Outlet Structure is more than a gate that opens and closes based on water level.

Flood-Con’s patented AOS is designed to understand the storm as it develops—using real-time rainfall data, hydrograph development, and site-specific pre-development hydrology to continuously determine how water should be released.

That distinction matters.

During high-intensity or back-to-back storm events, runoff conditions can change rapidly. The AOS adapts in real time to manage the detention facility while maintaining allowable discharge based on pre-development conditions.

This Flood-Con Site Monitor has been in service for 7 years. During a recent storm, large trees and debris were carried downstream and slammed into our depth sensor.

Despite the impact, the system remained fully operational.

When we talk about stormwater, it's easy to focus on rainfall totals.

2.76 inches of rain.

But what does that actually mean?

During this single storm event, more than 263,000 gallons of water passed through one Flood-Con AOS. That's over 2.2 million pounds of water—managed autonomously in real time as conditions changed throughout the storm.

To put that into perspective, that's roughly equivalent to:
💧 13 backyard swimming pools
🚛 55 fully loaded concrete mixer trucks
🚒 351 fire engines filled with water

From less than a foot of water to more than 7 feet in a matter of minutes.

This image was captured at 8:59 PM during a storm event on June 7 while a Flood-Con Automated Outlet Structure (AOS) was actively responding to rapidly changing site conditions.

Just minutes before this photo, water depth behind the gate exceeded 7 feet. At the time of the image, the AOS was still holding back more than 5.7 feet of water while maintaining controlled discharge downstream.

No manual intervention. No emergency response. Just real-time stormwater control performing exactly as designed.
