Glen Trew and cart in the jungles of southern Mexico in the spring of 1994, on location for The Burning Season (1994), directed by John Frankenheimer and starring Raúl Juliá 🎬

Gear: Nagra IV-S recorder, Cooper 106 mixer, Vega wireless system, espresso machine ☕

Glen likes to say that always having the espresso machine on hand was one of the secrets to his great working relationship with Frankenheimer.

We're not joking when we say we know what it's like out there.

The Burning Season is a powerful HBO Pictures film about the Brazilian activist Chico Mendes, and is notably Juliá's final performance, for which he was posthumously awarded both a Golden Globe and an Emmy. The film won numerous other awards, including the Emmy for Best Director of a Miniseries or Special.

Major new releases from the biggest names in wireless! Including two microphones??

Zaxcom has officially released their long-awaited DCiRX digital receiver, just in time for NAB '26. The DCiRX is the first Zaxcom receiver to feature Direct Conversion technology. Essentially, Direct Conversion applies a hardware filter per channel before the A-to-D converter, eliminating off-channel interference at the source, rather than digitizing a wide block of spectrum at once. The DCiRX includes this and many more advanced features, all powered by two AA batteries.

And yes, that's right. Lectrosonics is now a microphone manufacturer! Their S1 short shotgun mic is a lightweight supercardioid shotgun built for location sound, film, and broadcast. Featuring an RF-biased true condenser capsule with 10 dB(A) self-noise.

The Lectro L1 sub-miniature lav mic packs a MEMS silicon capsule that truly sets a new bar for subminiature lavs: 11 dB(A) self-noise, 0.5 dB unit-to-unit matching, and fully waterproof. Available now in black with LEMO connector.
