The quality of the underlying data is important for hospitals that use time studies to support reimbursement.

In an example included in our ROI of Time Studies guide, a hospital had been relying on prior years' time studies to pass MAC audits. When CMS directed MAC's to re-audit, the hospital was unable to produce applicable records for the period in cost report.

This led to $97 million in physician compensation being disallowed along with the wage index plummeting because of high earners being excluded.

The lesson is clear for Time Study:

Reimbursement strategy depends on hospital finance teams having accurate, timely, and easily retrievable data to support their work.
