Are you planning for Valentine's Day events yet? Here are three fun facts about this historic holiday. ❤️
1. Pharmacist and inventor, Oliver Chase, devised a machine that would quickly cut medical lozenges. Chase discovered he could use this machine to make candies, so he founded the New England Confectionery Company (Necco). In 1866 Chase’s brother came up with the idea of printing messages on the candies. In 1901, the candies adopted their popular heart shape.
2. Before Cupid was known as that cute little baby with wings, he was known as Eros, the Greek god of love. Son of Greek goddess Aphrodite, Eros was depicted as a young, handsome (immortal) man who had the power to make people fall madly in love. Over time, his story was was adopted by the Romans and he became known as Cupid. He was then adopted as a symbol of love for Valentine's Day in the 19th century.
3. The Agapornis, a bird species in the parrot family, are native to Africa. The birds often travel in pairs and are highly monogamous, social, and affectionate. Their names literally mean “Love Birds” The name combines the Ancient Greek αγάπη (agape) meaning "love" and όρνις (ornis) meaning "bird".
