Here’s a tip to help set clear device expectations at the start of the school year. See the K–12 breakdown below:

Grades K–5: Use a consistent sound or phrase to signal a transition. “Screens down, hands up” is simple, familiar, and easy for students to follow.

Grades 6–8: Give students a clear destination before devices open. Post the tab, link, or task so students know exactly where to begin.

Grades 9–12: Put a visible countdown on the screen. Timers set a clear expectation without requiring repeated reminders.
