CYBERSECURITY AWARENESS | Should You Let Your Browser Save Your Passwords?

You've probably seen this message hundreds of times:
"Would you like to save this password?"
Browsers like Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, and Firefox make it incredibly easy to save passwords, passkeys, payment information, and other personal details.
It's convenient, but is it the best option for your business?

⚠️ Here are a few things to consider:
• Company passwords may be saved in personal browser profiles.
• Saved credentials may synchronize to devices outside company management.
• Passwords may remain accessible on improperly secured computers.
• IT may have limited control over where important business credentials are stored.
• Business access can become complicated when employees leave the organization.
Browser password managers do offer security protections, but that doesn't automatically make them the right choice for every business.

✅ What do we recommend?
For company credentials, use a dedicated, company-approved password manager designed to support proper access management and security policies.
And the next time your browser asks to save a company password, think twice before clicking Yes!

💡 Our cybersecurity tip: A strong password is important, but knowing where it's stored and who controls it is just as important.

🎓 Does your team understand the risks associated with everyday technology decisions?
Our Cybersecurity Awareness Class helps employees recognize potential security issues and build safer habits when using company technology.

Cybersecurity isn't just an IT responsibility. Everyone plays a part.

CYBERSECURITY AWARENESS | Don't Let Your Work Computer Become the Only Key to Your Personal Accounts!

Here's a situation many employees never consider.
You use your work computer to access a personal email account or another online service.
The website asks if you'd like to create a passkey.
You click Yes.
Everything works perfectly, and signing in becomes easier.
But what happens when you leave the company?

⚠️ Here's where things can go wrong.

When an employee leaves an organization, IT may completely wipe or reset their computer to protect company information.
If your only passkey was stored locally on that computer, it may be permanently lost.
That doesn't necessarily mean your personal account is gone, but you could lose access until you complete the account recovery process.
And depending on the account, recovery isn't always easy or even possible!

✅ How can you avoid this?
• Keep personal passkeys on personal devices or in a secure personal credential manager.
• Never rely exclusively on company equipment to access personal accounts.
• Make sure your accounts have appropriate recovery options.
• Pay attention to where passkeys are being saved.
• Keep personal and company credentials separate.
Our cybersecurity tip: Your employer manages your work computer. Make sure your personal account access doesn't depend entirely on that device.

🎓 This is exactly the kind of everyday technology mistake cybersecurity education can help prevent.
We encourage our clients to have their employees complete our Cybersecurity Awareness Class to better understand security risks, recognize threats, and avoid costly mistakes.
Sometimes the biggest cybersecurity problems start with one innocent click.

CYBERSECURITY AWARENESS | Where Are Your Passkeys Being Stored?

Passkeys can make signing in easier and more secure, but choosing where to store them is an important decision.

Many modern password managers can store both traditional passwords and passkeys.

✅ For individual accounts, this can be a great option!

A reputable password manager can:

• Keep credentials encrypted and organized.

• Synchronize supported passkeys between authorized devices.

• Reduce dependence on a single computer.

• Make transitioning to a new device easier.

⚠️ But what about shared business accounts?

Imagine an employee creates a passkey for an account multiple people need to access.
That passkey is saved in the employee's personal password manager.
What happens if that employee leaves the company? What if another employee urgently needs access?

Suddenly, something intended to improve security becomes an access-management problem.

The issue isn't the passkey itself. It's how access is managed.

For business accounts, we recommend company-approved password managers with centralized administration, appropriate sharing controls, and recovery procedures.

Whenever possible, employees should use individual accounts rather than sharing login credentials.

💡 Our cybersecurity tip: Never store business credentials somewhere your organization cannot appropriately manage or recover them.

🎓 Have your employees taken our Cybersecurity Awareness Class?

Many security issues begin with small, everyday decisions. Our class helps employees better understand cyber risks and how to avoid common mistakes.

A little security knowledge today can prevent major problems tomorrow.

CYBERSECURITY AWARENESS | What Is a Passkey?

You may have noticed more websites asking you to create a passkey instead of using a password.
But what exactly is a passkey, and should you use one?

Passkeys are a newer, more secure way to sign in to an account without typing a traditional password. Instead, you typically verify your identity using your fingerprint, facial recognition, or device PIN.

✅ Why are passkeys becoming popular?
• They provide strong protection against phishing attacks.
• There is no traditional password for hackers to steal or guess.
• They can make signing in faster and easier.
• They help eliminate problems caused by weak or reused passwords.

⚠️ But there's something important to understand!

When you create a passkey, it must be stored somewhere. Depending on your setup, that could be your computer, phone, security key, or password manager.

And where you store it matters, especially when using a company-owned device.

Our cybersecurity tip: Before clicking "Create a Passkey," understand where it will be saved and whether you'll still have access to it if you change devices.

Technology is constantly changing, and even features designed to improve security can create unexpected problems when we don't understand how they work.

🎓 That's why we encourage our clients and their employees to take our Cybersecurity Awareness Class!

Our class is designed to help users recognize security risks, understand common threats, and develop better habits to protect themselves and their organizations.

Better cybersecurity starts with informed employees.

Severe storms can cause more than just bad weather — they can bring power outages, surges, equipment damage, and business interruptions.

Heavy rain, lightning, and strong winds can affect power, internet connections, and network equipment with very little warning.

Before storm season, businesses should take a few minutes to review their technology preparedness:
-Use UPS battery backups for servers, computers, firewalls, switches, and other critical equipment
-Make sure important systems are protected from power surges
-Verify that backups are completing successfully
-Keep at least one backup offsite or in the cloud
-Test remote access in case employees need to work from another location
-Make sure important equipment is not sitting in an area that could be affected by water intrusion
-Have a plan for safely shutting down equipment during an extended outage

Backups and battery protection may seem like small things—until the power goes out during a storm.

Preparing ahead of time can help reduce downtime, protect your data, and make recovery much easier.

Severe weather is unpredictable. Your technology plan doesn’t have to be.

☁️ Do You Still Need a Local Server?

For years, a local server was the standard for storing files, running applications, and managing business data.

Today, cloud computing has changed that conversation.

Cloud services can reduce the need for large upfront hardware purchases and ongoing server maintenance, while giving businesses more flexibility to scale as they grow.

Cloud solutions can offer:

✅ Lower upfront hardware costs
✅ Access to files and applications from almost anywhere
✅ Easier scalability as your business grows
✅ Built-in redundancy and backup options
✅ Less time spent maintaining aging server hardware

But that doesn’t mean a local server is always the wrong choice.

Some businesses still benefit from on-premises servers because of specialized software, large amounts of local data, performance requirements, compliance needs, or limited internet connectivity.

And for many organizations, the right answer may be a hybrid environment—keeping certain systems local while moving others to the cloud.

💡 The real question isn’t “cloud or server?”

It’s: Which setup makes the most sense for your business, your applications, your security requirements, and your budget?

If your server is getting older or you’re planning your next IT upgrade, it may be a good time to compare the cost of replacing it with cloud or hybrid alternatives.

How secure is the way your business shares files with clients?

Microsoft, Dropbox, and Google all offer secure file-sharing options, but they handle outside access a little differently.

Microsoft 365 / OneDrive / SharePoint
✔ Share with specific people
✔ Verify outside users
✔ Restrict editing or downloading
✔ Remove access when it’s no longer needed
✔ Great fit for businesses already using Microsoft 365

Dropbox
✔ Password-protected links on supported plans
✔ Link expiration dates
✔ Download restrictions
✔ Simple for sharing large files with clients and vendors

Google Drive / Google Workspace
✔ Viewer, Commenter, or Editor permissions
✔ Share directly with specific people
✔ External users can verify their identity
✔ Admins can control outside sharing across the organization

The important part? All three can be secure when they’re configured correctly.

No matter which platform you use, avoid open public links for sensitive information, use MFA, limit permissions, and remove access when it’s no longer needed.

* Not sure how your business is currently sharing files with clients or third parties?

We can review your Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, or Dropbox setup and help make sure your files are being shared securely.

🚨 Cybercriminals aren’t just targeting the “big guys” anymore.

For years, many small and midsize businesses believed they were too small to be worth a hacker’s time. That mindset is becoming increasingly dangerous.

With AI, cybercriminals can create convincing phishing emails, research businesses, automate attacks, and target far more organizations at once. Attackers don’t necessarily care how big your company is — they care whether they can get in.

That means every business needs to start thinking like a potential target.
Cybersecurity today should include more than traditional antivirus:
🛡️ Endpoint Detection & Response (EDR) to detect and respond to suspicious activity
🎓 Regular cybersecurity training so employees know how to recognize phishing and social engineering
🔐 Multi-Factor Authentication wherever possible
💾 Reliable, tested backups
🔄 Regular patching and security updates
📋 A plan for what happens if an incident occurs
Your employees are part of your security system, too. Train them. Test them. Keep cybersecurity conversations ongoing.

Nearly half of small businesses surveyed by Verizon had already added or upgraded employee cybersecurity training, and current threat reporting shows AI is helping attackers work faster and improve multiple attack techniques.

The question is no longer, “Why would anyone attack our business?”
It’s: “Are we prepared if they do?”

Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace — which one is better for your business?

It’s been a while since we’ve compared the two, and both have changed quite a bit.

Microsoft 365 is a great fit for businesses that rely heavily on Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, and the Microsoft ecosystem.

Google Workspace is often a strong choice for teams that prefer Gmail, Google Drive, Docs, Meet, and simple browser-based collaboration.

The right answer really depends on how your business works, what tools you already use, your security needs, and your budget.

Thinking about switching platforms or moving your business email? A properly planned migration can make the process much easier and help avoid unnecessary downtime or data loss.

Which does your business use — Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace?

More businesses that work directly or indirectly with the federal government may soon find themselves subject to stronger cybersecurity and compliance requirements.

If your organization handles Federal Contract Information (FCI) or Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI), now is the time to understand where you stand.

Preparing early can help you:
• Identify compliance gaps before they become urgent
• Strengthen cybersecurity controls
• Protect your eligibility for federal contracts
• Avoid last-minute remediation when requirements hit

CMMC is no longer something only large defense contractors need to think about. Suppliers, subcontractors, service providers, and other organizations supporting the federal ecosystem should be paying attention.
