If you run a local business, when was the last time you actually checked your Google Business Profile?

We do SEO audits regularly, and nearly 100% of the businesses we review are making at least one of the mistakes in this article. Usually more than one.

The good news is most of them are easy to fix once you know what to look for. Things like missing categories on your Google Business Profile, inconsistent contact information across directories, or a website with thin content that isn't giving Google enough to work with.

Some of these take 20 minutes to fix. Others take a longer investment. But all of them are costing you visibility in local search results right now.

Our latest article walks through 11 of the most common local SEO mistakes we see, what causes each one, and how to clean them up. Think of it as a self-audit checklist for your local search presence. βœ…

Many small business owners we work with have spent money on some form of offline marketing at some point. A print ad, a mailer, a sponsorship, a radio spot.

And when we ask how it went, the answer is almost always the same: "I think we got a few calls from it, but I'm not really sure."

That uncertainty is one of the biggest reasons to shift your marketing budget online. With digital marketing, you can see exactly what's working and what isn't. You can track which campaigns are driving leads, which emails are generating sales, and which pages on your website are converting visitors into customers.

That doesn't mean every digital channel will work for every business. But it does mean you'll know, and you can adjust based on real data instead of gut feel.

Our latest article walks through five specific reasons small businesses benefit from increasing their digital marketing budget, from higher ROI to better audience targeting to easier follow-up with prospects. πŸ“Š

Meta and Google keep making it easier to run ads. A few clicks, let the AI handle the targeting, the copy, the bidding. It sounds great.

But have you noticed that the easier these platforms get, the harder it is to see what's actually happening inside your campaigns?

You might not know which audiences are seeing your ads, why one campaign is getting more budget than another, or whether the platform is optimizing for your best customers or just the cheapest conversions.

We call this The Black Box Problem. And it's getting worse as these platforms hand more control to their own AI.

Here's the thing to remember: Google and Meta are optimizing to make their business more money. They don't want you to fail, because then you'd stop spending. But there's a wide range between "not failing" and getting the most out of every dollar you spend.

Our latest article looks at what role marketing agencies and human expertise still play in a world where the platforms want to automate everything, and what you can do to keep control of your own marketing. πŸ”

98% of the people who click on your ads won't buy.

That's not a sign your ads are failing. That's just how advertising works. Even a well-performing campaign converts a small percentage of clicks on the first visit.

The question is what happens to the other 98%.

If you have strong SEO, they'll find you again when they do more research. If you captured their email, you can follow up with them directly. If they followed you on social media, you stay in front of them between that first click and the moment they're ready to buy.

This is why treating SEO, Google Ads, email, and social media as separate tactics is a mistake. They all play a role in the same sales process. Your ads generate the initial traffic. Your other channels handle the follow-up. And the follow-up is where most of the sales actually happen.

Our latest article breaks down exactly how these four channels reinforce each other, and how to get more out of every marketing dollar by connecting them. πŸ”—

If you've noticed your website traffic shifting over the past year or two, you're not imagining it.

Google's AI Overviews, ChatGPT, and other AI-powered search tools are changing how people find businesses online. And for a lot of small business owners, the old playbook of tracking keyword rankings and publishing blog posts isn't enough anymore.

We're hosting a free live webinar on August 26 at 12PM EST to break down what's actually changing in search, what still works, what's fading, and what to do about it.

Michael Cianciulli and Riley McLaughlin from our team will walk through our updated framework for SEO in the AI era, plus a simple 3-step plan to stay visible in both Google and AI-powered platforms.

There's also live Q&A so you can get your specific questions answered. πŸ“‘

If you're a small business owner trying to figure out whether to invest in SEO or Google Ads, you've probably gotten some version of "do both." That's good advice if you have the budget. But a lot of businesses don't, and "do both" isn't helpful when you need to pick one.

Here's a simple way to think about it.

Google Ads is like renting. You get results fast, you can move in tomorrow, but the moment you stop paying, the traffic stops. SEO is like buying a house. It takes longer to build, but every investment adds value over time. The content you create, the authority you build, those are assets that keep working for you.

Neither one is always the right answer. It depends on where your business is right now. If you need leads this month, Google Ads gives you speed. If you have an established business and can invest for the long term, SEO builds something you own.

Our latest article breaks down the real pros and cons of each, with a clear framework for deciding which one makes sense for your budget and your goals. 🏠

One of the most common things we hear from businesses running Google Ads is some version of "I know I'm getting some sales, but I can't tell you which campaigns are actually making money."

That was exactly the situation with an e-commerce client who came to us for help. They had basic conversion tracking installed, so they knew how many sales came from Google Ads each month. But they didn't know the revenue behind those sales.

Their products ranged from a hundred dollars to thousands of dollars, and they were treating every sale as if it was worth the same amount. That meant they had no way to tell which campaigns were winners and which were burning money.

The fix wasn't complicated. We installed proper revenue tracking, and then did the simplest thing in the world: turned off the losing campaigns and invested more in the winning ones.

The result? 81% more revenue while spending 36% less on ads.

This is exactly why Tracking is the foundation of The Growth Formula. You can't optimize what you can't measure. πŸ“Š

Your Facebook Ads were working fine a few months ago. Decent click-through rate, leads coming in, costs were reasonable.

Then something shifted. Costs crept up, engagement dropped, and you're not sure what changed.

This is one of the trickiest things about Facebook Ads for small businesses. The campaigns don't always fail dramatically. They fade. And if you're not watching the right signals, you might keep spending on something that stopped working weeks ago.

There are a handful of warning signs that tell you it's time to dig in and make changes. Things like your daily budget consistently going unspent, your reach declining week over week, or your frequency metric climbing above 3 or 4, which usually means the same people are seeing your ad so often they've started tuning it out.

Our latest article walks through five specific signs your Facebook Ads campaign needs attention, what's causing each one, and where to start fixing it. πŸ”

If you run a local business, try this: ask ChatGPT to recommend a business like yours in your area.

See what comes up.

If you're not mentioned, you've just experienced what we call The Invisibility Gap. Your reputation is real, but your digital footprint doesn't reflect it. And as more people use AI tools to find businesses, that gap becomes a real competitive problem.

The interesting thing is, what works for Google and what works for AI search aren't that far apart. Both reward clear, helpful content. Both reward consistent mentions in credible places. Both reward businesses that actually demonstrate their expertise online.

But there are some important differences, and ignoring them means you could be doing great SEO work and still be invisible in the places where more and more of your prospects are looking.

We put together a practical breakdown of how Google and ChatGPT actually work, where they overlap, and what you can do to stay visible in both.

How much effort has your business put into social media this year?

And if I asked you what you're getting from that effort, could you give me a specific answer?

Most small business owners can't. And usually the issue is that they're measuring social media against the wrong expectations.

If you watch basketball, you know the difference between a scorer and a playmaker. The scorer puts the ball in the basket. The playmaker makes the pass that sets up the shot. Both are valuable. But if you only count baskets, the playmaker's stats look empty, and you bench the wrong guy.

That's what most businesses do with social media. They measure it like a scoring channel when it's actually playing the role of an assist. The prospect who checks your page before filling out a form on your website didn't come from social media. But social media made the conversion happen.

We published a new article introducing The Right Role Framework, a four-step process for figuring out exactly what social media should do for your specific business before you spend another dollar or another hour on it. πŸ€
