We have recommended that everyone use either Cloudflare or Word fence for their web site firewall to protect against constant attacks. EVERYONE’S web site is constantly under attack. Using a simple firewall will help quite a bit. If you are using e-commerce or have sensitive data on your site then we recommend Cloudflare. Please speak to one of us to make sure you have protection against these types of attacks.

More subcontractors are advertising online to help with web development, programming and marketing. According to the Wall Street Journal, this has become the favorite way for North Korea to extort money and information. Some contracts will work diligently for months or years before attacking and stealing information. The best way to avoid this issue is to use portals like Fiver and Upwork. They screen contractors and employees.

Buying Online

There are a lot of great deals online through social media, web sites and emails. Be very careful when buying from them. The last merchandise distributor who had excellent legit deals was Temu. Tariffs have put that to a almost complete halt. The rule of thumb is still the same as always. If it is too good to be true. One flag to watch for is when you see a flurry of ads for a great deal and there is more than one company offering at the same time. That should be a warning right there.

Artificial Intelligence and Your Business

There is not a day that goes by that we don’t hear something new about AI. A new business, a new datacenter built for AI, or why you should be using it.

I've been keeping involved with the software side of this product for some time. ChatGPT seems to be the big winner right now. The processes that it does well with are writing stories, reports, drawing images and even composing songs. This are nice uses, but that’s not going to revolutionize any industry. Finding out what causes a type of cancer or how to increase manufacturing productivity is what the tech industry is striving for.

So how can a small business get involved? Well, quite frankly, don’t even try to use it at a high level right now. The cost would be astronomical and there is no guarantee that an AI programmer or team can make it work correctly. You will notice if you use a lower-level program that upgrades are constantly happening. Everyone is racing to be the best and have all the answers.

My suggestion, and what NetCetra does at this point, is to look for software that we use with AI built in or offer it as an option. Let the big boys carry the expense load right now.

One of the simplest ways to get used to AI is through your browser. Be sure to install the AI option in any browser. This way when you do a search, it will give you options and an explanation. You may be using this feature and don’t even realize it.

Enjoy the ride and try to stay up to date by reading about it. It's here to stay and will make your life and business better IF you understand it. It's one way to stay ahead of your competition. Chances are they are not paying attention.

I just finished reading "Citizen Hearst" by WA Swanberg. WR was an amazing man. The quote that jumped out at me in all 527 pages was, "He had indeed come a long way. The man was born before the Battle of Gettysburg, watch them build the first railroad across the country and now witness the dropping of the atom bomb."
Perfect for a newsman.

Russian Cyber Attacks Are Coming

The information that I am receiving from different sources is warning that we will all be under attack from Russian cyber-attacks. The threat level has probably increased already. Here is a list of things to do to protect your accounts.
• Change all your passwords.
• Consider getting a software program like LastPass to remember all your passwords.
• Use double authentication when it is offered.
• Be careful what links you click on. Even if the message address looks familiar. One thing you can do is mouse over the sending address. If it is a security risk, then you will see that the visible email address is not the same when you mouse over it.
• When you receive a message from someone or a business you know and you are not sure, contact them before doing anything with the email.
• Be careful what web sites you visit. One way to block your visibility in Google Chrome is to use incognito window. It is the very top right. Click on the three vertical dots and you will see “open new Incognito Window”.
• Tighten your on-line credit information by locking it down so only you can get a copy of the information. You can freeze your credit reports for more security.

I have a lot of friends and associates in this field. I hope everyone who has additional tips will post them. Please share this article.

My partner and business associate, Dr. Peter N Fish just wrote a white paper on Omicron.

What’s the deal with “Omicron.”No, it’s not another conspiracy. Omicron is the 14th letter of the Greek alphabet, and the different variants of the COVID virus are now being named with Greek letters, in the same way that hurricanes are named alphabetically. (2021 hurricane list of names: Ana, Bill, Claudette, Danny, Elsa, etc).

Why the Greek alphabet? Why were Nu and Xi skipped? The Greek alphabet was selected because it is neutral, it doesn’t carry the emotional or political baggage of destination names (examples “China Virus or Spanish Flu”) or animal names (examples “Swine flu or Monkey pox).

The Greek letter Nu was skipped because it would be confusing with everyone talking about the “New Nu virus.”

The letter Xi (pronounced “Ki,” like “Hi”) was skipped because Xi (when mis-pronounced as “Shee”) is an extremely common name in China, and it would be like calling it the “Garcia Virus,” which would be damaging and would defeat the purpose of using alphabetical names to reduce bias.

We got all the way down to Omicron because the eight variants that were named Epsilon, Digamma, Zeta, Eta, Theta, Lota, Kappa, and Lambda weren’t dangerous or contagious enough to be reported on the news, so that’s why you didn’t hear about them.

The problem with naming viruses after animals and places is that those names are often inaccurate and they can inspire dangerous behavior in uninformed people. For example, the “Spanish Flu” that claimed millions of lives in 1918 wasn’t from Spain at all - it was called the Spanish Flu because the newspapers in Spain were the only ones that reported it (the newspapers of the combatant countries of WWI were censored, and didn’t mention the flu because they didn’t want the enemy to know that they were sick). The Spanish Flu actually started on an Army base in Kansas (Camp Funston).

When viruses are named after animals it often encourages mass slaughter of the named animal by ill-informed and panicked people, even though it may be discovered that those animals weren’t the actual source of the disease. A classic example was the mass slaughter of cats and dogs during the Bubonic Plagues because they were thought to be spreading the disease. This actually increased the spread, because when the dogs and cats were gone, the rat population exploded, and infected rats carried infected fleas into houses where the disease spread to humans. This has happened in recent years to bats (which don’t carry rabies any more than any other mammal does), monkeys (which have been hunted almost to extinction), and ferrets.

So, what’s the bottom line here? If you have questions, look for answers in reliable places - no, not Facebook, or Reddit, or Twitter, or the Blaze - all of whose stories are designed to upset you (not inform you) so that you see their paid advertisements. If the story upsets you is outrageous, or blames a group of people (Liberals! Antifa! MAGA! Immigrants!) it’s probably false and is designed to manipulate you and expose you to advertising and more outrageous content.

Be smart. Look in the boring, unemotional places for answers: talk to the PA (CPT Doyle) or the Surgeon (LTC Fish) or your own doctor, or look it up in Wikipedia or Encyclopedia Brittanica or the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). Don’t be manipulated by conspiracy spreaders.
