“Everything is slow.” If you run a growing company, you’ve heard it from your team more than once. The tricky part? “Slow” is a symptom, not a cause — it could be the network, an app, a login, or a cloud connection nobody owns.

All month we’re digging into the everyday tech complaints behind that phrase, and what they’re actually telling you.

Think about your last big tech decision — phones, security, cloud. Whose advice were you actually taking?

For most companies, the honest answer is: the salesperson from the vendor they bought from. Not carelessness — there was just no one neutral in the room. Every other big decision in your business has a specialist behind it. The tech ones don’t have to be the exception.

Choosing a technology partner shouldn't feel like a second job.

But here's how it usually goes: you need a vendor for one project, so you start Googling. Twelve tabs later you've got five companies that all sound identical, three that ghosted you, and a sinking feeling that you have no real way to tell the good ones from the confident ones.

So you make the call on gut feel and a decent sales deck and hope.

There's nothing wrong with your judgment. You're just being asked to evaluate something outside your wheelhouse, under time pressure, with no way to compare apples to apples. That's not a you problem. That's a broken process.

The buyers who get this right usually aren't smarter about tech. They just stopped trying to vet the whole market alone.

What's been the hardest part for you finding options, or figuring out which one to actually trust?

Contract escalators are one of those quiet things most companies never audit.

Your IT and telecom contracts likely have annual price escalators built in. Somewhere between 3 and 7 percent per year, compounding.

Nobody flags it because it's already in the contract. The invoice quietly climbs. In year 5, you're paying 25% more than you started, for the same service.

The move: pull your active contracts and look for the escalator clause. Then compare that number to what the current market is doing. If the market's flat or dropping and your contract is climbing 5% a year, that's your renegotiation opening.

The savings aren't dramatic in year one. They compound.

Most mid-market companies I talk to think they have two options for IT: hire more internal staff, or hand it all to an MSP.

There's a third option most people don't hear about. Co-managed MSP.

Your internal team keeps the strategic work. The MSP handles overnight coverage, escalations, security monitoring, and the ticket flood.

Your CIO gets to focus on projects that move the business. The MSP handles the work that's eating your team's day.

You get the coverage of a larger IT department without the headcount. The MSP gets a partnership that isn't adversarial.

Not right for every company. But if your internal team is buried in tickets while strategic projects sit stalled, it's worth understanding what co-managed actually looks like.

Every IT provider claims to be independent. Very few actually are.

Here's the test. Ask them what percentage of their revenue comes from vendor commissions on the services they place.

If it's zero, they're paying their bills some other way. Fine. But understand how.

If it's most of it, the recommendation is going to lean toward whichever vendor pays the highest commission on that deal. Not necessarily the best fit for you.

At AGI Beacon we're compensated at the same rate regardless of which provider a client selects. The advice doesn't shift based on who's writing us a check. It shifts based on what's right for the client.

Not saying every commissioned advisor is compromised. Saying it's a question worth asking before you sign the engagement letter.

Question I've been asking every CFO lately: how much is your company spending on AI?

Nobody can answer it cleanly.

Most mid-market companies have 5 to 15 AI subscriptions running right now. ChatGPT for sales. Copilot for the exec office. Claude for the analysts. Something vertical marketing signed up for. A few more nobody remembers approving.

Try this Monday morning. Ask your controller to pull every AI-related charge from the last three months. Corporate cards, departmental budgets, all of it. Most companies find more than they expected.

If you want a hand cleaning it up, we do this exercise all the time.

Here’s how most technology contracts end:

📅 The renewal date arrives.

👀 Nobody noticed it was coming.

🔒 The auto-renewal clause kicks in.

You're locked in for another year at a price you never benchmarked.

This happens with internet contracts, UCaaS licenses, managed service agreements, and SaaS subscriptions. Repeatedly. In the same organization, every single year.

The solution isn't just "paying closer attention."

The solution is a renewal calendar with 90-day visibility so every upcoming contract is flagged long before your leverage window closes.

Once a contract auto-renews, the provider's incentive to negotiate drops to zero. Before it renews, they’ll often move significantly if you come to the table with market benchmarks and alternatives.

At AGI Beacon, we maintain that visibility for our clients. We flag the renewals early and run the competitive evaluation before the deadline.

That's where the real savings happen.

The biggest cloud migration mistakes don't happen during the migration.

They happen before it even starts when nobody asks the single most important question:

Which workloads actually belong in the cloud?

Not everything should move. Not everything benefits from the public cloud.

⚡ Latency-sensitive apps: Often perform significantly better on private or collocated infrastructure.

🔒 Compliance-sensitive data: Requires specific hosting environments that general public clouds can complicate.

⚠️ Legacy applications: Sometimes carry a migration risk higher than the business case justifies.

The companies that get cloud migrations right don't just pick a platform and lift-and-shift.

They evaluate each workload individually balancing performance, compliance constraints, cost profiles, and risk tolerance then build a migration sequence that minimizes operational disruption.

At AGI Beacon, we run that assessment. We build the sequence and deliver a shortlisted selection of providers matched to your specific business outcome not just a generic platform.

Large enterprises have procurement teams and benchmarking tools.

Mid-market companies have a CIO with 17 other priorities.

That’s why mid-market businesses consistently overpay for the exact same technology and accept worse contract terms.

It’s not fixed pricing. It’s a process problem.

• 300+ Vetted Providers across every tech category
• Real-Time Benchmarks to evaluate every quote
