The laptop comes across the desk already open to the Google Ads bill.

“Three months. I could not point to one job that came from it.”

I ask for the login instead of defending Google.

Broad match keywords. Location set to the whole country. Ads running at 2 a.m. when nobody answers. Every click landing on the home page. Nothing counted.

Nobody threw that money away. He handed it over, a few dollars at a time, to searches that were never going to call.

A measured campaign looks different. One service. Keywords only a buyer would type. A radius you actually drive. Hours when a person answers the phone. Every call counted.

Then you have a decision instead of an argument.

Saturday means the smoker's going.

Today it's brisket. Good stuff.

Ask me about smoking meat and I'll talk your ear off. Ask me about your Google profile and you'll get the same treatment.

Drop a question in the comments this weekend. Brisket or business, I'll answer every one.

Your customers want to know the price before they call.

Put a straight answer on your website, and the people who call already know the ballpark. Your first conversation starts further along.

You don't need a full price list. Give a range, and name what moves the price up or down. A roofer might post the usual range for a repair and explain that roof size and pitch change it.

We do this ourselves. Our four monthly plans are on our website, from $499 to $2,497. A Tulsa owner can see what we cost before we ever talk.

Tell me your line of work in the comments. I'll help you word your price answer.

Call Digital Rodeo and you get me. I pick up the phone myself.

After enough of those calls, you hear the same questions come around. The one I hear most: "Can you make my website faster?"

My answer: Yes. We start by finding what slows your pages down on a phone, like oversized photos or extra plugins, and we fix those first. Then your customer reaches your answer and your phone number sooner.

Your business has its own version of this. The person who answers your phone hears the same handful of questions every week. Write them down for a week, in your customers' words, and you've got a to-do list for your website.

Tell me in the comments the question your customers ask most, along with your line of work. I'll tell you where I'd put the answer on your site.

Rentals rents surveillance gear for jobsites down in Texas.

Contractors told other contractors. The business grew on referrals, and the website had room to do a lot more.

We rebuilt the site around the words contractors type when they need a camera on a jobsite. Now Caprock gets calls from the website on its own.

Chad Jones, the owner, left us this on Google:

"Steve has been amazing to work with! He’s got our website performing top-notch, and best of all we have started closing more deals almost immediately once utilizing Digital Rodeo’s services. Strongly recommend to anyone needing website management and marketing help for your business."

Thank you, Chad.

If your business grew the same way, the next customers are out there searching. Happy to show you where you stand.

Sunday afternoon. You are on the couch, thumb moving on its own.

A friend’s kitchen remodel. A dog that talks. A Tulsa bakery pulling cinnamon rolls out of the oven.

You like the bakery post. You do not get up.

Thursday morning. A crown pops off at breakfast.

You do not open Instagram. You type “emergency dentist Tulsa” into Google, look at the map, and call the first office that is open and close.

Same person. Same phone. Two completely different jobs.

Owners tell me social media replaced Google. In the accounts I manage, the calls still come from the search bar. Social keeps you familiar. Google gets you found.

People scroll when they are resting. People search when they are ready.

Try this on your lunch break.

Pretend you've never heard of your own business. Grab your phone and search what you sell plus your town. "Roofer Broken Arrow." "HVAC Owasso."

Look at the map. Look at who shows up first.

Tap the top profile, then tap yours. Count the reviews. Check how fresh the photos are.

Each review and new photo you add gives the next person searching a reason to call you.

Tell me in the comments what you found. I'll answer every one.

A neighbor told me about a mechanic he likes.

That's about the best recommendation you can get. Somebody who lives next to you, telling you who he trusts with his car.

I still pulled up the shop's website before I called.

It was simple. Photos of the bays, the hours, the services, a real phone number. It looked like somebody there cared.

I called that afternoon. I never looked anywhere else.

My neighbor's word put the shop on my list. The website is what made me stop looking.

I think about that with the owners I work with. Your website is your front door. A referral walks somebody up to it, and a good site tells them they're at the right house.

If your business runs on word of mouth, pull up your own site on your phone tonight. Does it back up what people say about you?

Has a website ever sealed a decision for you? Tell me what did it.

8:40 on a Tuesday night. Water on the garage floor.

You search “water heater repair near me.” Three plumbers on the map. Good stars on all three.

You tap through to each website before you call.

The first one never loads.

The second has a stock photo and a phone number buried in small gray type at the bottom.

The third has a real van, one line about same-day water heater replacement in Tulsa and Broken Arrow, and a number at the top of the screen.

You call the third one. You never read a full paragraph.

Owners tell me nobody reads websites anymore. Your customers skim, and the skim decides who gets the call.

The hail comes through on a Tuesday night.

Wednesday morning you are at the kitchen table typing “roof repair Tulsa.”

Company one: 640 reviews, 4.9 stars. The newest review is fourteen months old.

Company two: 85 reviews, 4.7 stars. Three new reviews this week, and the owner answered each one by name.

You call company two.

Most owners would bet on the first company. The total feels like a fence you build once and stand behind.

Customers read the dates. They read your replies. They read what people say about the work.

A big number with nothing new tells them the business stopped paying attention.
