MYTH VS FACT | Does a CoC mean an electrical installation will stay safe forever? ⚡

❌ MYTH: Once a Certificate of Compliance has been issued, the installation is permanently safe and compliant.

✅ FACT: A CoC records that an electrical installation complied with the applicable requirements at the time it was inspected and tested.

Its condition can change afterwards due to:

⚡ Unauthorised alterations or additions
⚡ New equipment or circuits
⚡ Damaged wiring or components
⚡ General wear and deterioration
⚡ Environmental exposure
⚡ Poor maintenance or unqualified electrical work

A CoC is an important compliance document, but it does not guarantee that an installation will remain unchanged or free from future faults.

If alterations are made or warning signs appear, the installation may require further inspection, testing and, where applicable, updated certification.
