100/10. 100/100. Same first number, completely different experience.

That second number is your upload speed, and it's the one most people skim past when comparing packages. A 100/10 package gives you fast downloads (streaming, browsing) but a comparatively slow upload, which matters the moment you are on a video call, backing up photos, or sending large files.

A 100/100 package (symmetric speed) gives you equal performance in both directions. More expensive, usually, but genuinely worth it if your household does a lot of video calls, cloud uploads, or remote work.

Next time you are comparing packages, don't just look at the first number. Check what's after the slash.

What does fibre actually cost in Cape Town right now? It depends on speed, provider, and what network is live at your address, and prices shift often enough that last year's numbers aren't much use.

This guide breaks down realistic monthly costs across speed tiers, what "free installation" really means once you read the fine print, and how to compare providers properly instead of just chasing the lowest number on a billboard.

Worth a look before your next renewal or a new signup.

Most people think of FibreGeeks purely as "the internet infrastructure," and fair enough, that's the headline feature. But the network does more than carry your Netflix stream.

The same infrastructure that delivers your internet connection also supports CCTV networks, access control systems, intercom integration, and TV-over-fibre, all running on one set of cabling instead of a tangle of separate systems for separate services. For estates and gated communities especially, that means security cameras, gate access, and entertainment can all sit on infrastructure built to handle it properly, not bolted together after the fact.

If your estate or property is only using this network for browsing and streaming, there's probably more it could be doing for you.

Take a look. Chances are, your internet provider is already on this list, running on the FibreGeeks network without you even realising it.

That's how open-access fibre works. We build and maintain the infrastructure. Two dozen ISPs compete for your business on top of it. You get the choice, the pricing comparison, and the freedom to switch without ever touching the physical line.

Estate, apartment block, or freestanding house, the fibre installation process looks a little different for each

This guide walks through exactly what to expect getting connected in Cape Town, whether you're in a large estate with existing infrastructure, an MDU (multi-dwelling unit) needing coordination with body corporate, or a freehold property starting from scratch.

Worth a read before your installation appointment so you know what's coming.

Adding a few more names to the list: Eastglen, Glencrest, Glenwood, Rivergate (both the suburb and the village), and Devobosh are all live on the FibreGeeks network, joining 50+ other communities across the Western Cape

Same story every time with high-capacity infrastructure, actively monitored, built for real households with real demands. And because it's open-access, the ISP is entirely your call. Compare packages, switch if you need to, keep the same rock-solid network underneath.

"My internet is so slow" is one of the most common complaints we hear, and about half the time, it's not actually the internet.

Quick test: run a speed test directly on your phone connected to Wi-Fi. Then run the same test on a laptop plugged directly into the router via ethernet cable. If the ethernet result is fast and the Wi-Fi result is slow, the problem is your Wi-Fi setup, not your fibre line. If both are slow, that's when it's worth checking with your ISP.

Other culprits that get blamed on "slow internet" is an old router that can't handle modern speeds, too many devices on one network, background apps eating bandwidth, or a device itself just being old and struggling regardless of connection speed.
