In this short video, Marketing guru Rory Sutherland talks about the perceived value of a communication and how a slower, more complex process is a signal to the recipient that you care.
www.facebook.com/watch/?v=832383556430191

Sutherland’s work as vice chairman of the Ogilvy & Mather group of companies includes developing marketing techniques that veer away from conventional advertising and instead focus on the psychology of both the message and its delivery.

“If it’s made for everyone, it’s felt by no one.” Inkpact

He cites handwritten direct mail as perhaps the slowest, most time intensive way of marketing but shows how effective that approach can be and how you can link to your CRM to gain its advantage without all the work.

Ask your local print expert about personalised direct mail.

Australian artist Briony Stewart has created the most delightful artwork for the 2026 Children’s Book Week theme of ‘Symphony of Stories’ to tempt your children (and you) to pick up a book.

“I decided to try and show what stepping into a symphony of stories might be like. A huge colourful collection of characters bursting out of a book representing their different stories with weird and wonderful instruments,” said designer Briony Stewart.

Children’s Book Week starts this Saturday 22 August.

The Children’s Book Council of Australia have made activity booklets, displays, character stories and even a scavenger hunt available for free.

Get your free cartonboard Swatch Kits.

Australia’s leading distributor of packaging substrates, Ball & Doggett, has launched new kits to give brand owners a more tactile way of choosing from their many packaging options.

“We wanted to create a tool that genuinely supports the way designers and print managers work. These swatches bridge the gap between specification sheets and what actually happens on press,” said their Marketing Executive, Josh Gleeson.

Each kit contains DL sample cards that show board performance across scoring and folding, die-cutting, coatings and embellishment, gluing and finishing for both topside and underside performance as well as application suitability.

“By showing real production outcomes, we’re helping customers choose materials based not just on specification, but on proven performance.” ballanddoggett.com.au/cartonboard-swatch-kit/

'Rubbing/Loving: Seoul Home' is Do Ho Suh's hand-rubbed replica on paper of the whole exterior of his childhood home.

Known for his complex sculptural expressions of architecture and life-sized creations in paper, Suh called this technique a "loving gesture" that is mingled with a sense of loss.

As he worked on the graphite rubbing, Suh rediscovered memories that hadn’t surfaced for years as he worked through each part of the building in an act he describes as touching "where memory actually resides".

This decade-long project also evoked thoughts of past and present for him and how we carry our past with us wherever we go. He has also created a rubbing of his New York apartment followed by another of that entire building.

His work was exhibited late last year at Tate Modern in London. You can see it here: www.tate.org.uk/tate-etc/issue-65-spring-2025/home-sweet-home

The latest European Consumer Packaging Perceptions Survey asked 5,000+ consumers for their packaging preferences.

89% prefer cardboard packaging. Plastic packaging, on the other hand, is falling in popularity.

Consumers also said that the use of cardboard packaging makes a significant contribution to their personal sense of actively helping to combat climate change.

Your customers are increasingly favouring the environmentally friendly, recyclable and renewable qualities of paper and cardboard.

Justo believe that what people actually buy through convenience is not groceries, “it’s a better everyday life”.

Along with the business goal of “a fairer supermarket” giving better access to small and medium-sized suppliers, Mexican supermarket Justo are super focused on providing a happy experience for their customers.

They think shopping with them should be so good it creates time for the things you’d rather be doing, so they came up with this eye-catching design on their shopping bags.

Each design represents wellness and active living, emotional balance and self-care, and the bond between people and their pets.

By choosing not to showcase their products, the message shifts from “What can I buy?” to “What changes if I do?”

This clear message using a style that’s energetic, simple and monochromatic lands so well. It’s contemporary, warm, and highly scalable across their bags and other marketing assets.

We love a WA celebration! Broome celebrates its unique location and multicultural population with the Shinju Matsuri Festival (Festival of the Pearl), 21st August - 6th September.

Back in 1969, the founders wanted to foster understanding, promote unity and respect, and celebrate the diversity of Broome’s Chinese, Japanese, Malay, Aboriginal and European people so came up with the wonderful idea to combine each group’s annual celebrations into this one, week-long festival.

One of the most beautiful events last year was the Floating Lanterns Gallery for people to remember those loved ones no longer with them. In this moving sunset ceremony, people were given paper lanterns to decorate that they placed on a bamboo frame with a light inside then let the tide carry it out to sea. www.shinjumatsuri.com.au/galleries/2025-floating-lanterns/

We’re proud to have supplied these paper lanterns and delighted to have been part of such a special event.
