Today, Thursday 21 May, marks Global Accessibility Awareness Day (GAAD). It is a global opportunity to get everyone talking, thinking and learning about digital access and inclusion for the more than one billion people worldwide living with disabilities.

At Dolphin, accessibility is not just a conversation. It has been our mission for 40 years.

As we celebrate Dolphin @ 40, we are proud to reflect on four decades of breaking down barriers and building independence for people who are blind, partially sighted or print-impaired. From pioneering screen readers in 1986 to today’s evolving assistive technologies, our focus has always been the same: making technology work for everyone.

GAAD is a reminder that accessibility is essential. While progress has been made, there is still more to do.

Let’s keep pushing for a world where digital experiences are inclusive by design.

Here’s to 40 years of impact and the future of accessibility.

Members of the Dolphin team were proud to attend the official opening of the new 'Noel Duffy' crossing at New College Worcester . It was a lovely event, celebrating accessibility and improving independence for young people with vision impairments.

The crossing has been named in honour of the late Noel Duffy, who was Dolphin CEO and a governor at the college. "Noel's work helped transform access to assistive technology for blind and partially sighted people”.

It was inspiring to see how this new on‑campus crossing will help blind and vision‑impaired students build confidence and independence in a safe, supportive environment.

We’re delighted to have been part of the occasion and are very happy to continue Noel’s legacy through work that supports inclusion and independence for all.

This Friday, we will join New College Worcester at the opening of their newly installed pedestrian crossing, which they have named in honour of Noel Duffy, whose support for the college reflected his passion, leadership and unwavering commitment to accessibility.

The crossing will help students practise vital road-crossing skills safely and confidently for generations to come.

Noel was CEO at Dolphin, a Governor of NCW, and a champion for accessibility, assistive technology and inclusion. Naming this crossing after him will act as a lasting tribute that reflects his dedication to empowering blind and vision impaired young people.
