This is the first view of Lake Hawea for those travelling from the West Coast. It is a dramatic vista on a summer evening as Corner Peak has evening sunlight on it for a period.

Photographer, Philip Hill is a Dunedin based academic who has a family bach at Lake Hawea. His grandparents owned one of the first sections on Nichol street before the main subdivision there occurred over 60 years ago. His main hobby is scenic photography and he hopes especially to capture beautiful shots all around Lake Hawea over time. The lake’s dramatic vistas are not straightforward to photograph for various reasons, but the rewards are great for those who persevere.
