Clocking in & clocking out might be foreign terms to you at this point, but if you’re a business owner, you know the reality is that it’s easy to always be “on.”

If you’re feeling stuck “clocked in” to your business, go back to this question:

Why did you start your business?

Maybe you wanted more time, more money, more peace. Whatever it was, you knew there was more for you to experience.

Remember the version of you that was bold enough to take the leap to start your business? Bold enough to even admit you wanted more?

What if you tapped into that version of you so you could “clock out” a bit more this year?

Maybe you can run paid ads, update your website, or send scheduled emails to make more sales this year.

But before you get into any of that, can you do that without photos that reflect the business you’ve grown?

You could use stock photos. You could keep using that same headshot over & over again.

OR…

With fresh photos, you could stop relying on your words to do the talking.

You get to let the images show that you’re the expert worth hiring.

You can visually show people what working with YOU is like.

What I’ve had to learn is this:

The most interesting & inspiring stories are not up & to the right forever.

There are ups & downs.

That’s what they show you in all the stories during the Olympics (it’s also why you’re inspired by them).

Even the gold medalists didn’t succeed at everything they did.

They’ve lost, they’ve had injuries, they’ve quit & come back better.

I’m learning to be more obsessed with the journey than the outcomes.

The journey is the point.

Remember that as you’re building your brand, every bump is part of your story.

It’s not the end of you. It’s the valley before the next peak.

This one’s for the woman who thinks doing a photo shoot is an impossible summit on cringe mountain 🏔️

As you’re climbing the mountain toward your revenue goals, it takes some steps that may feel “cringe” along the way.

💥Reaction // A trend pops up and you panic post that old selfie again, kicking yourself that “get new photos” is still on your to-do list.

🌀Inaction // Your Pinterest board? Stunning. Your search history? Full of inspiration. BUT… You get so caught up in worrying about what people may think that you don’t post, don’t book a shoot, and stay quiet online for another year.

📈Bold Action // You reach out to a photographer, experience your photo shoot, and receive a full bank of photos to pull from any time you want to post. You love how the photos turned out & you’re certain that sharing them will draw in more aligned clients this year!

12 months. 12 words.

I don’t know about you, but I’ve never been great at picking 1 word for the year.

My years lately have been full of too much change to be captured by 1 word. So here’s my 12!

If you’re like me, you’ve learned a ton this year. Running a business full-time comes with a lot of lessons and a lot of growth. It’s wonderful and hard and the best thing ever all at once.

Spend a little time this week reflecting on all you’ve learned. It’s probably more than you’re giving yourself credit for.

Here’s to a 2026 full of more incredible shoots with more business owners I adore!

Happy Small Business Saturday!

One of my very favorite parts of being a branding photographer is getting to meet and photograph so many incredible business owners. Hearing your stories, your ideas, and your heart behind your work never gets old.

I always tell people I work with the coolest clients. That includes play therapists, neuonutritionists, ADHD coaches, hairstylists, after-loss professionals, designers, real estate agents… and truly, so many more. I learn about a new industry almost every single week, and I love it so much.

To my clients: thank you for trusting me, for supporting a small business like mine, and for being brave enough to run one yourself. You’re impacting your community in such meaningful ways, and it’s an honor to capture what you do.

And to everyone else, shop small today (and every day you can). It matters. 🫶🏻

1️⃣ Do it scared. As says in her book, you can choose a familiar hell or an unfamiliar heaven.

2️⃣ You may not feel “ready” for whatever your next step is, but if you’re ready to move on from your current situation, ask yourself which investments can help you get there faster.

3️⃣ It’s okay if it feels scary. That’s how you know it matters.

Today I booked my website redesign with and even though we won’t start until January, it already feels so good to have that “update website” box checked.

It’s not finished (we haven’t even started!), but it’s in progress and that little bit of movement has completely re-energized me for what’s ahead, just like a spa day does!
