Pre Conference Day ✔️ | Navajo Nation Economic Summit 2026

What a great start to the Navajo Nation Economic Summit at Twin Arrows Navajo Casino Resort.

Today brought together Navajo leadership, entrepreneurs, business owners, educators, economic development professionals, and community partners focused on one common goal—strengthening the Navajo economy and creating opportunity for future generations.

Congratulations to our CEO, Wyatt Gilmore, who represented Laguna Creek in the NNES Golf Tournament "winners circle" and enjoyed connecting with fellow leaders and business professionals before the Summit officially kicked off.

Throughout the day, the Laguna Creek team had the opportunity to meet with entrepreneurs, tribal leadership, and community members to share how our Native-owned technology platforms are helping tourism and hospitality operators strengthen operations through:

We had some incredible conversations about entrepreneurship, tourism, economic diversification, and keeping more dollars circulating within Navajo communities.

This Memorial Day, we honor and remember all those across the Navajo Nation and the United States who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to their country.

the Navajo Nation Veterans Memorial Park in Window Rock was created as a “living memorial” honoring Diné warriors that include those who were KIA or remain MIA in service to the U.S. Armed Forces?

The memorial beautifully weaves together military remembrance and Navajo cultural teachings — featuring a medicine wheel design, sacred sandstone arch alignment, and a bronze Navajo Code Talker statue at its center. More than 147 fallen Diné warriors are honored within its memorial walls, including those lost in service since the memorial’s opening who paid the ultimate price.

As many gather today in remembrance, we encourage learning more about this powerful place of reflection, healing, and honor within the Navajo Nation.

We had the opportunity to attend the Navajo Nation Division of Economic Development’s Navajo Business Regulation Outreach Workshop hosted at the Phoenix Indian Center, followed by the American Indian Chamber of Commerce of Arizona (AICCAZ) luncheon featuring NNDED Director Sharlene Platero and Navajo Nation President Buu Nygren.

We appreciate the leadership of the Phoenix Indian Center and American Indian Chamber of Commerce of AZ for helping bring together such a diverse group of Navajo entrepreneurs, industry professionals, and businesses interested in becoming suppliers and service providers to the Navajo Nation and its communities.

The workshop provided valuable insight into Navajo Nation business opportunities, regulations, leasing processes, and the many resources available through the NNDED team.

Most importantly, it created space for meaningful conversations around strengthening economic opportunity and supporting long-term growth across the Navajo Nation.

As part of National Travel and Tourism Week, the American Indigenous Tourism Association officially declares May 4 as the inaugural day! This day honors the original destinations, cultures, and experiences that define the American travel story. 📅

Indigenous tourism is a foundational part of the U.S. travel economy, contributing $11.6 billion annually while supporting Native Nations and communities, strengthening cultural heritage tourism, and connecting travelers to experiences rooted in place, story, and stewardship.

As we look ahead to America250, this celebration marks a shift in the American travel industry, recognizing Indigenous leadership and economic contributions. By establishing American Indigenous Tourism Day, the association is bringing the travel conversation back to its roots, asserting that a truly comprehensive American tourism narrative must honor the original stewards and the enduring legacy of Indigenous peoples.

As our CEO Sherry L. Rupert (Paiute/Washoe) shares, we must recognize that the story of America is not 250 years old—it is thousands of years old.
