Today marks Indigenous Peoples' Day, a holiday that honors Native Americans — rather than Christopher Columbus, who stole Indigenous land and has been celebrated for doing so for centuries.
In honor of the holiday today, here are a few things you can do to honor Indigenous Peoples' Day.
1️⃣ Look up whose land you’re on; from there, you can research the tribe that used to live there, and take some time to acknowledge and learn about them. Websites like and native-land.ca can help you get started.
2️⃣ Read a book about Native American history — there are many that focus on the relationship between Indigenous peoples and protecting the environment.
3️⃣ Donate to Native American and Indigenous charities, such as Indigenous Environmental Network (), , , and . If you cannot afford to donate right now, consider following these groups on Instagram to help diversify your news feed.
